Pay is okay, but could be better for tech
Pros: For a tech startup, the base salary for Software Engineer roles isn't terrible. You get decent health insurance, which is a big deal in the San Francisco office. It's not a huge perk package, but it's solid.
Cons: The annual raises are pretty minimal, honestly. Stock options for early-stage employees aren't as competitive as at larger big tech companies. I've seen better compensation plans for similar roles elsewhere.
Advice to Management: Management should really re-evaluate compensation bands for all positions, especially for skilled engineering roles. Being more competitive with salaries and equity would help retain talent in this tough market.

Leadership is Okay, Room for Improvement
Pros: I liked the team dynamic; everyone on my agile team was pretty supportive. For a Junior Software Engineer, there are solid learning opportunities, especially if you're proactive. The hybrid work model is also a plus, giving good flexibility in the Austin, TX office.
Cons: Management communication isn't always clear, especially from senior leadership. Project direction can change suddenly, which makes it tough for software development lifecycles. There's a feeling that some leaders don't fully grasp the day-to-day work for engineering roles.
Advice to Management: Work on clearer communication and project vision from the top. It'd help if leaders spent more time understanding the engineering team's challenges.

Leadership is a Mixed Bag Here
Pros: My direct manager was awesome and gave good technical feedback. You get to work on some really interesting software development problems for a mid-sized tech company. There's a decent focus on professional growth if you seek it out.
Cons: Upper management often makes decisions that don't make sense on the ground. It feels like they're out of touch with what the engineering teams actually need. Communication from leadership isn't always clear, especially in the San Francisco office.
Advice to Management: Try to connect more with individual contributors. Listen to the engineering teams' feedback before making big strategy changes. Invest in better training for middle and senior leadership on effective communication.
