Pay is okay, but could be better for tech

CUBE's compensation package is just average. It's fine for a startup, but don't expect top-tier pay or benefits, especially if you're comparing it to established tech giants.

Pros

For a tech startup, the base salary for Software Engineer roles isn't terrible. You get decent health insurance, which is a big deal in the San Francisco office. It's not a huge perk package, but it's solid.

Cons

The annual raises are pretty minimal, honestly. Stock options for early-stage employees aren't as competitive as at larger big tech companies. I've seen better compensation plans for similar roles elsewhere.

Advice to Management

Management should really re-evaluate compensation bands for all positions, especially for skilled engineering roles. Being more competitive with salaries and equity would help retain talent in this tough market.

Growth is tough at this fintech startup
Pros: I've learned a lot about financial data analytics here. There's good exposure to modern tech stacks, which is solid for skill building. Working in the London office means decent networking.
Cons: Career growth for Software Engineer roles feels pretty stalled. There aren't clear promotion paths, and mentorship is scarce. It's tough to see a future here long-term.
Advice to Management: Management needs to create clear career paths and offer more mentorship. Invest in proper development programs for engineers.

Leadership is Okay, Room for Improvement
Pros: I liked the team dynamic; everyone on my agile team was pretty supportive. For a Junior Software Engineer, there are solid learning opportunities, especially if you're proactive. The hybrid work model is also a plus, giving good flexibility in the Austin, TX office.
Cons: Management communication isn't always clear, especially from senior leadership. Project direction can change suddenly, which makes it tough for software development lifecycles. There's a feeling that some leaders don't fully grasp the day-to-day work for engineering roles.
Advice to Management: Work on clearer communication and project vision from the top. It'd help if leaders spent more time understanding the engineering team's challenges.

Okay for Starting Out, But Growth is Slow
Pros: Good for learning the ropes as a Junior Data Analyst. I got to touch a lot of different data projects, which was helpful. Working onsite in the San Francisco office means a lot of face time with senior folks, which is good for networking.
Cons: Career growth is pretty slow here for us in data analytics. It feels like there aren't many clear paths to move up. Promotions are rare and they don't seem to invest much in developing existing employees past the initial ramp-up.
Advice to Management: Focus more on creating clear career paths and development opportunities for your existing data and analytics talent. Invest in upskilling and mentorship programs to retain good employees and show them there's a future at CUBE.
