Leadership needs a reality check for frontline staff
Pros: The team itself is great, everyone pitches in to help. For a mid-sized company in the logistics industry, the benefits package isn't terrible, especially the health insurance plan. I've learned a lot about supply chain operations.
Cons: Leadership can be really out of touch with what frontline Logistics Coordinators actually deal with day-to-day. Communication from the top down is inconsistent, leading to a lot of last-minute scrambles and confusion. There's not much support or recognition when things go well, only when there's an issue.
Advice to Management: Spend more time understanding the challenges faced by onsite staff in roles like a Logistics Coordinator. Improve communication channels and provide clearer expectations to all teams to reduce last-minute stress.

Hybrid Model at SPX Express is Okay
Pros: The hybrid model for Logistics Coordinator roles is a decent start. I appreciated the ability to work from home a couple of days a week, which is good for avoiding Dallas traffic. It's better than being fully onsite in the supply chain industry.
Cons: However, true work flexibility isn't really there; you have to be in the office three set days. It feels more like a fixed schedule than real choice, especially for those with longer commutes. There's not much room to shift days around when personal stuff comes up, which can be tough.
Advice to Management: Consider allowing more flexible hybrid schedules or giving teams some autonomy on which days they come in. True work flexibility would really help retention in our logistics operations.

Pay is Decent, Benefits are a Bit Rough
Pros: As a Delivery Driver in Chicago, IL, the hourly pay is pretty decent. It's competitive for this kind of role in the logistics industry. You can make good money if you're willing to work the extra delivery routes.
Cons: The benefits package isn't great, honestly. Healthcare premiums are super high, so it eats into your take-home pay. There's not much paid time off either, which is tough for driver roles.
Advice to Management: Management should really look at improving the benefits package, especially healthcare costs. Offering more competitive PTO would also make a big difference for employee retention.

Long Hours for Logistics Coordinator at SPX
Pros: The team I worked with was solid. We really pulled together when things got crazy. It's a good place to learn the ins and outs of the logistics industry if you're new.
Cons: Expect to put in long hours, especially for Logistics Coordinator roles. Work-life balance isn't a priority at the Dallas, TX office. There's not much flexibility, even when you really need it.
Advice to Management: Management needs to seriously look at staffing levels. We can't keep pushing employees to work 60-hour weeks without burning them out. Offer some actual work-from-home options for roles that can handle it.

Okay for now, don't expect fast growth.
Pros: It's a pretty stable job in the shipping industry. The team in the Chicago office is generally supportive, and you learn a lot about supply chain management basics. The work-life balance for Logistics Coordinator roles is decent most weeks.
Cons: Career growth here is tough. There aren't many opportunities to move up, especially for operations roles. I've felt stuck in the same position for a while, and the path to promotion isn't clear at all in this corporate environment.
Advice to Management: Management should really define clearer career paths. Give employees more chances for internal training and promotions, especially for us on the operations side.

Flexibility is Tough for Operations Roles
Pros: There's a decent amount of PTO you can take, which is good when you can actually plan for it. They're generally okay if you need to swap shifts with a coworker for express delivery operations, which helps.
Cons: Work flexibility is a huge issue for logistics roles here. It's mostly onsite in the Dallas office, with almost no remote work options. The hybrid model they talk about isn't really for us, it's pretty strict 9-5.
Advice to Management: Management needs to really look at modern work arrangements. Offering even one WFH day a week for Logistics Coordinators would make a huge difference. The current policy makes it hard for parents or anyone needing some flexibility.

Solid Job if You Need Consistent Work
Pros: For Delivery Driver roles, there's usually a steady flow of packages. The hourly work is pretty consistent, especially during peak seasons in the logistics industry. I rarely worried about getting my 40 hours in, which is good for immediate income needs.
Cons: Job security can feel a bit up and down outside of busy periods. There are often seasonal slowdowns, and hours can drop for some people if you're newer. Raises aren't common, so it's tough to feel secure about long-term pay growth within this corporate environment.
Advice to Management: Try to create more stable opportunities and clearer pathways for advancement for your long-term Delivery Drivers. Better communication about seasonal changes would help people plan.

Culture's okay, but it's a grind
Pros: I really liked my direct team; we had each other's backs, which is huge in the busy delivery industry. There's also decent variety in the day-to-day tasks, so it doesn't get too stale.
Cons: The general company culture felt pretty competitive, especially among middle management. It's tough to feel like your efforts are truly seen beyond hitting strict daily metrics, which leads to employee burnout and less team spirit.
Advice to Management: Focus on building a more collaborative environment rather than solely pushing for individual metrics. Employee recognition beyond just bonuses would go a long way for morale.

Job Security is Just Okay Here
Pros: The core business in the supply chain industry is generally stable. As a Logistics Coordinator, my role felt essential day-to-day. We always have shipments needing to go out, which helps with feeling useful.
Cons: There's a lot of internal restructuring, which makes you nervous. Several coworkers were let go recently, especially in the Dallas, TX office. Management isn't great at explaining the 'why' behind big changes.
Advice to Management: Try to be more upfront with employees about company strategy and any upcoming changes. Clearer communication about layoffs or department shifts would really help morale.

Okay Flex for Logistics, But Not Truly Remote
Pros: For a company in the parcel delivery industry, SPX Express offers decent work flexibility, especially for roles like a Logistics Coordinator. I was able to work a hybrid schedule, splitting my time between home and the Chicago, IL office, which isn't always common in logistics.
Cons: However, don't expect full remote work; it's mostly hybrid, and the onsite days are pretty strict. There's not a lot of leeway for truly flexible hours once you're in the office without a hassle.
Advice to Management: Consider offering more fully remote options for certain back-office roles. It would really help with retention and attracting top talent in the logistics industry.
