WFH is okay, but expectations are high
Pros: It's cool that Alignerr is fully remote; that's a big plus for a software engineering role. Being able to work from California was a huge draw. We get decent autonomy on our daily tasks, which helps with personal scheduling.
Cons: While it's remote, the work_flexibility isn't what I hoped for. We often have late meetings and the expectation for quick responses is constant, even outside typical 9-5. It felt more like "work from home always" than truly flexible. For a tech startup, the pressure to always be "on" is pretty intense.

Okay for Remote, but Needs Better Flexibility
Pros: I liked that it was a remote-first setup, which really helped avoid the Austin traffic. You can work from home every day, which is a huge plus for software development roles. The company provides a good WFH stipend too.
Cons: While you're remote, don't expect much flexibility with your core hours. They're pretty strict about being available 9-5 PM CST, even for a SaaS startup. It's tough if you have appointments; they don't really support async work much.
Advice to Management: Management should seriously look into offering more flexible core hours. For a remote SaaS startup, having rigid 9-5 PM expectations limits genuine work-life integration. Trusting employees with async work would boost morale.

Okay flexibility, but room for improvement for engineers
Pros: The hybrid work model is a decent step for our Austin, TX office. You get two WFH days a week, which helps with commutes. It's nice to have some control over your schedule, especially for personal appointments.
Cons: Still, as a Software Engineer, I wish there was more flexibility beyond the set hybrid structure. It's not truly remote-friendly if you need to be in the office three days. Sometimes, team meetings are scheduled for WFH days, forcing you to come in, which defeats the purpose.
Advice to Management: Management should really commit to the hybrid model or go fully remote for some roles. It'd help a lot with morale and retaining tech talent, especially for the engineering teams.

Hybrid model is okay, but could be better
Pros: I liked the option for a hybrid model; we got 2 WFH days a week. That's pretty solid for a mid-sized tech company in the San Francisco Bay Area. It helped a lot for personal appointments without using PTO.
Cons: The WFH days felt strict though, no real wiggle room beyond those two. As a Software Engineer, I felt like my output should matter more than my physical presence. Not much flexibility for truly remote work or shifting hours much.
Advice to Management: Consider more trust-based remote options. For technical roles, focusing on deliverables over office time would really boost morale and potentially attract more talent.

Hybrid Model is Okay, Room to Improve
Pros: It's nice to have a hybrid work option; you're not stuck in the office five days a week. For a Software Engineer, this kind of setup really helps balance things out a bit. You can pick your WFH days.
Cons: The 'mandatory' office days can be pretty rigid, which feels less flexible than advertised for a growing tech startup. Sometimes the commute to the Austin, TX office just kills the morning, especially when you have focused work to do.
Advice to Management: Consider giving teams more autonomy over their hybrid schedules, or at least making the mandatory in-office days more productive than just 'being present.' It would really boost morale and actual work flexibility.

Hybrid Model for Software Engineers Is Just Okay
Pros: Alignerr has a decent hybrid setup, which is good for some weeks. As a Software Engineer, I liked being able to work remote from my home office two days a week.
Cons: Honestly, the 'flexibility' can feel kinda restrictive, not truly flexible. If you're a full-time remote employee, it's tough; they really push being onsite for critical tasks. It isn't a true WFH tech startup.
Advice to Management: Clarify the remote work policies and genuinely support WFH roles. Don't just offer 'flexibility' if you're going to subtly discourage it.

Hybrid model needs more flexibility
Pros: The team here is pretty smart and you learn a lot working on cool software development projects. They've got a solid compensation package too, which is nice for a tech startup in San Francisco.
Cons: Work flexibility is a real sticking point. We're on a mandatory hybrid schedule, with set days in the San Francisco office. As a Software Engineer, this rigid setup makes personal appointments tough and impacts my work-life balance.
Advice to Management: Consider offering more options for remote work or truly flexible schedules. The current hybrid model isn't working for everyone, especially for folks like Software Engineers who often need focused, uninterrupted time.

Hybrid model works, but has some limits
Pros: I liked the hybrid model as a Software Engineer. We typically only needed to be in the Austin, TX office 2-3 days a week. This work arrangement really helps with work-life balance compared to full onsite.
Cons: Sometimes the 'flexible' part felt a bit restricted by team leads. It's not a truly remote-first tech startup, so don't expect total freedom. There aren't many options for fully remote roles after onboarding.
Advice to Management: Give teams more autonomy on remote vs. in-office days. Be clearer about options for remote work long-term, especially for experienced software development roles.

Hybrid Work is Decent, But Has Limits
Pros: The hybrid model is a real plus. For engineering roles, you get some freedom. I appreciate being able to work remote from Texas a few days. My manager was cool about schedule shifts. It made life easier.
Cons: "Flexibility" sometimes means being online super early or late. It's not truly full remote. If you're near the office, those onsite days feel required. That can make planning hard. It's tough on personal life sometimes.
Advice to Management: Really define what "flexibility" means. Don't let it just mean always-on availability. Make the hybrid policy clearer for tech startup employees.

Decent Flexibility, But Still A Startup
Pros: The hybrid model is pretty solid; we come into the San Francisco office a few days a week. For Software Engineer roles, this balance lets me get focused work done at home. WFH days are a lifesaver for personal appointments.
Cons: It's not fully remote, so you do have to be in the office sometimes. Flexibility for unexpected personal issues can be tough; there's pressure to be available during core hours even on WFH days.
Advice to Management: Maybe consider giving teams more autonomy over their hybrid schedules. A bit more trust would go a long way in this tech startup.
