Okay for stability, slow for career growth
Pros: The dental tech industry is pretty steady, so job security feels decent here. My team in the San Francisco office was really supportive and the work itself was interesting. You get to work on a product that actually helps people.
Cons: As a Software Engineer, career growth was definitely tough. There isn't much of a clear path to move up, and promotions are super infrequent. You often have to push hard to get new responsibilities or projects.
Advice to Management: Please create clearer promotion criteria and invest more in professional development for engineering roles. It'd really help with retention and employee motivation.

Decent Pay, Benefits Need Work
Pros: As a Software Engineer, my base salary was pretty competitive for a growing tech startup. They did offer unlimited PTO, which is a nice perk for remote roles. The 401k match was decent, nothing amazing but it's there.
Cons: The health insurance premiums were really high for the coverage we got. It felt like I was paying a lot out of pocket. Also, the annual bonus structure isn't very clear, especially for a SaaS company. It's tough to understand how it's calculated.
Advice to Management: You really need to re-evaluate the health insurance options. Lower premiums would be a huge draw for new hires, especially for a growing tech startup. Transparency on bonus calculations would also help employee morale.

Culture is Decent, But Needs Work
Pros: I've met some really smart people here. As a Software Engineer, it's been great collaborating with talented folks. The remote setup is definitely a big plus for flexibility.
Cons: The company culture can feel a bit undefined sometimes, especially for us working remote. There isn't always a clear vision from leadership, which makes things tough. It feels like things shift a lot for a growing tech startup.
Advice to Management: Focus on consistent communication, especially for remote employees. Try to define the company culture more clearly and stick to it, providing a stable environment for a tech startup.

Career Growth Needs a Clearer Map
Pros: I've learned so much about new tech stacks, which is great for any software development role. If you're proactive, senior engineers are usually down to help out. The hybrid work model in our Austin, TX office is pretty solid too, offering some flexibility.
Cons: The biggest struggle for me was career growth. There isn't a well-defined path for moving up, and promotions feel a bit random, not tied to a clear performance framework. It can be tough to know what to do next if you're looking to advance your software engineering career here.
Advice to Management: Alignerr really needs to set up clearer career progression paths for its engineers. Define what it takes to get to the next level and offer some formal mentorship or training programs for career development.

Decent Pay for a Mid-Sized Tech Company
Pros: The compensation as a Software Engineer is pretty solid. It's competitive for a mid-sized tech company in Austin, TX. The health insurance is actually quite good too, which is a big plus.
Cons: Annual raises are a bit disappointing, they don't really keep up with market rates. The stock options package isn't very generous compared to what I've seen elsewhere in the software industry.
Advice to Management: Consider reviewing the annual raise structure and making equity packages more competitive to retain top talent.

Good tech, but leadership is a mixed bag
Pros: I really liked working with my immediate engineering team. The product we built as a Software Engineer was genuinely cool and technically challenging. It's a fast-paced environment for a startup in the tech industry.
Cons: Leadership here can be tough to deal with. There's often a lack of clear direction from upper management, especially for those of us working in the San Francisco office. Decisions sometimes feel really sudden and not well thought out.
Advice to Management: Focus on consistent and transparent communication from the top. Give teams more autonomy and trust. Explain the 'why' behind big strategic shifts, it would help employee morale and clarity.

WFH is okay, but expectations are high
Pros: It's cool that Alignerr is fully remote; that's a big plus for a software engineering role. Being able to work from California was a huge draw. We get decent autonomy on our daily tasks, which helps with personal scheduling.
Cons: While it's remote, the work_flexibility isn't what I hoped for. We often have late meetings and the expectation for quick responses is constant, even outside typical 9-5. It felt more like "work from home always" than truly flexible. For a tech startup, the pressure to always be "on" is pretty intense.

Okay for now, but a bit uncertain long-term
Pros: I enjoy the technical challenges here. As a Software Engineer, I get to work on cool projects and the team's really collaborative. It's a decent place to learn new tech in the SaaS industry.
Cons: Job security feels a bit unstable for a tech startup. There's always talk about funding rounds and runway, which makes you wonder about layoffs. It can be tough to focus when that's in the back of your mind.
Advice to Management: I'd suggest more transparent communication about the company's financial health and long-term vision. It would really help calm some of the job security worries among employees.

Okay for Remote, but Needs Better Flexibility
Pros: I liked that it was a remote-first setup, which really helped avoid the Austin traffic. You can work from home every day, which is a huge plus for software development roles. The company provides a good WFH stipend too.
Cons: While you're remote, don't expect much flexibility with your core hours. They're pretty strict about being available 9-5 PM CST, even for a SaaS startup. It's tough if you have appointments; they don't really support async work much.
Advice to Management: Management should seriously look into offering more flexible core hours. For a remote SaaS startup, having rigid 9-5 PM expectations limits genuine work-life integration. Trusting employees with async work would boost morale.

Okay flexibility, but room for improvement for engineers
Pros: The hybrid work model is a decent step for our Austin, TX office. You get two WFH days a week, which helps with commutes. It's nice to have some control over your schedule, especially for personal appointments.
Cons: Still, as a Software Engineer, I wish there was more flexibility beyond the set hybrid structure. It's not truly remote-friendly if you need to be in the office three days. Sometimes, team meetings are scheduled for WFH days, forcing you to come in, which defeats the purpose.
Advice to Management: Management should really commit to the hybrid model or go fully remote for some roles. It'd help a lot with morale and retaining tech talent, especially for the engineering teams.
