Software Engineer

Decent Company, Career Growth Needs a Boost
Pros: It's a solid, stable corporate environment, which is good if you value security. As a Software Engineer, I've gotten to learn a lot about industrial IoT and HVAC systems, which is a niche skill. There are often internal job postings for other roles if you're proactive.
Cons: True career growth can feel pretty slow, especially for individual contributor engineering roles. Sometimes you feel siloed, and there's not a lot of clear path for upward movement without jumping teams. Opportunities for significant skill development beyond your immediate project aren't always easy to find in the Palm Beach Gardens office.
Advice to Management: Management really needs to invest more in clear career ladders and development programs for technical roles. It would help a lot with retention and show us a path forward beyond just lateral moves. Foster more cross-functional project opportunities.

Okay Work-Life, Sometimes a Push
Pros: Working as an HVAC engineer here offers pretty standard 40-hour weeks. The hybrid work setup for the Syracuse office is a decent perk, giving some flexibility. It's solid if you manage your projects well.
Cons: Project deadlines can get really tight, especially in building automation. You'll find yourself putting in extra hours sometimes to hit targets. Management needs to set more realistic timelines for engineering teams.
Advice to Management: Managers should try to protect their teams more from unrealistic deadlines. Better project planning would really improve morale and prevent burnout.

Decent Stability, Limited Work Flexibility for Engineering
Pros: You get pretty solid job security working for a corporate giant like Carrier in the HVAC industry. There's a decent hybrid model for Mechanical Engineer roles, letting you WFH a couple days a week if your manager is cool with it.
Cons: Work flexibility isn't great overall, especially if you're looking for fully remote work. You still need to be onsite often, particularly for product development or manufacturing support in the Atlanta office. It feels a bit old-school sometimes.
Advice to Management: Try to offer more flexible work arrangements for engineers. It would help attract and keep talent in this competitive market.

Okay Place to Grow, Culture Needs Work
Pros: I've learned a ton as an Electrical Engineer here, working on HVAC industry projects. There's good job security, which is nice in a large corporate company like this. The teams are usually pretty supportive, especially within individual departments.
Cons: The culture can feel very siloed, making cross-functional work tough. Innovation sometimes takes a backseat to process, which is frustrating. There's also some resistance to truly embracing a modern hybrid work model in the Syracuse office for many teams, despite what's said.
Advice to Management: Focus on breaking down silos and empowering teams to try new things. Really commit to modern work flexibility across all sites.

Decent place, but sales role work-life is tough
Pros: You learn a ton about the HVAC industry here. The training for new HVAC Sales Associates is pretty thorough and sets you up well. Plus, the benefits package is actually quite solid for a large corporate company.
Cons: Work-life balance as an HVAC Sales Associate in the Atlanta, GA office can be really rough. Expect consistently long hours, often 50+ per week, especially chasing quarterly numbers. It's hard to disconnect and actually have a personal life.
Advice to Management: Try to set more realistic sales targets for the HVAC Sales Associate roles. Encourage managers to help their teams maintain a better work-life balance instead of pushing for constant overtime. It's not sustainable.

Stable if you like the routine at Carrier
Pros: Job security is pretty solid here, especially as an Associate Mechanical Engineer. It's a huge, established company in building technology, so they don't do massive layoffs often. The benefits package is decent too.
Cons: Career growth can feel really slow; you're often stuck waiting for someone to retire. The corporate environment can be bureaucratic and resistant to new ideas. Work-life balance isn't always great, especially during project crunch times in the Syracuse, NY office.
Advice to Management: Try to create clearer paths for career advancement and promote innovation more actively. Listen to the younger engineers and their ideas.

Growth is slow for Project Engineers here
Pros: It's a very stable company. You get to learn a lot about the HVAC industry, especially for entry-level Project Engineer roles. The benefits package is pretty solid.
Cons: Career growth here is definitely a challenge; it feels like internal promotions are really slow. There isn't much focus on professional development opportunities. You can get stuck in the same role for a while in the Indianapolis office.
Advice to Management: Management should really focus on creating clearer pathways for career advancement. Invest more in training and mentorship for corporate roles.

Manufacturing Engineer

Decent flexibility for some, but not all roles
Pros: Some teams, especially in corporate or back-office roles, get a decent hybrid model. You can often work from home a couple of days a week if your job allows. My manager was pretty understanding if I needed to adjust my schedule for personal stuff.
Cons: As a Manufacturing Engineer, there are definite onsite requirements. You can't really do much remote work when you need to be on the production floor. This makes true flexibility tough, and it's less accommodating than some other large corporate environments.
Advice to Management: Try to find ways to offer more flexible options even for roles like Manufacturing Engineers. Maybe staggered shifts or designated 'focus' days for remote work where possible. A more consistent hybrid model across all departments would help.

Growth here is slow but steady
Pros: It's a big, corporate company, so there's good job security, especially for engineering roles. You can learn a lot about the HVAC industry if you're proactive. There are decent internal training programs available too.
Cons: Career progression can feel really slow; you often wait years for a bump up. As a Project Engineer in the Florida office, opportunities aren't always clear. Promotions often go to external hires, which is frustrating for internal talent.
Advice to Management: Invest more in developing and promoting internal talent. Make career paths for technical roles clearer and faster, especially for people in the engineering department.

Hybrid Policy is Fine for Engineers
Pros: For a large corporate like Carrier in the HVAC industry, their hybrid work model is actually pretty decent. I get to work from home a couple days a week as a Senior Electrical Engineer, which is a big plus. It's not fully remote, but it's better than full-time onsite.
Cons: The flexibility really depends on your manager, and some are pretty strict about the onsite requirement. There's not much room to adjust your specific office days, so it's not truly flexible if something comes up. Could use more trust.
Advice to Management: Trust employees more with their schedules, especially for those in the hybrid model. Standardize the flexibility policy across departments and ensure managers aren't too rigid.
