Leadership's a Mixed Bag in the Field
Pros: Some of the team leads are awesome, really supportive. They get what it's like doing onsite field work as an HVAC Technician. It's a stable corporate environment.
Cons: Leadership from above feels pretty disconnected from our daily tasks. Decisions about commercial HVAC projects in Houston, TX often don't make sense. There's not enough upward mobility for experienced field staff.
Advice to Management: Try to get more input from the people on the ground. Understand the daily challenges of servicing commercial HVAC systems. Our feedback matters.

Solid Benefits, Pay Just Okay for Engineers
Pros: Health insurance is actually pretty good here, which is nice for a big corporate company like Trane Technologies. The 401k match is also a decent perk for employees.
Cons: The actual salary for Controls Engineer roles in the Davidson, NC office often feels a bit low. Raises are usually pretty small, and it's hard to get a big bump without really pushing for it.
Advice to Management: You should really re-evaluate compensation for engineering roles. Competitive salaries would help attract and keep talent, especially for those working on building management systems in the HVAC industry.

Leadership Varies, Some Good, Some Not So Much
Pros: My direct manager in the Davidson, NC office was genuinely supportive and understood the technical challenges for HVAC systems. It's a solid place for learning if you find the right team within the industrial sector.
Cons: Higher-level corporate leadership often feels disconnected from the ground work. They don't always seem to grasp the day-to-day impact of their decisions on engineering teams, which can make things tough.
Advice to Management: Senior leaders should spend more time with individual contributor teams. Understand the realities on the ground for Project Engineer roles, especially regarding resource allocation and project timelines.

Decent balance for project managers in corporate
Pros: The hybrid work model in the Davidson, NC corporate office is a big plus. It really helps manage personal life and appointments. Most weeks, as a Project Manager, I was able to stick close to 40-hour weeks, which is solid.
Cons: Sometimes, especially nearing project deadlines, it gets really busy. There's an unspoken pressure to be available for work messages after hours. It can make fully disconnecting a bit tough.
Advice to Management: Leadership should encourage teams to truly log off. Setting clear boundaries on after-hours comms would really help employee wellbeing.

Leadership Can Be A Real Mixed Bag
Pros: You get solid benefits for sure; it's a huge corporate environment. I've had some really good direct managers who understood the HVAC industry well and supported our onsite work.
Cons: Upper leadership often feels disconnected. It's tough when decisions come down that don't make sense for actual HVAC design projects. There's not much transparency from the top.
Advice to Management: Listen more to the teams on the ground, especially those of us doing the actual engineering work. Improve communication from senior leadership.

Decent balance for field work, it varies.
Pros: I usually got my 40 hours in, which is good for this kind of field-based role in the HVAC industry. There was some flexibility if I needed to adjust my schedule, which helped manage personal appointments. PTO policy was solid.
Cons: On-call rotation could be tough; it really impacted my personal life. Sometimes last-minute emergency calls meant long days and unexpected travel, even within the Midwest region. It's not always easy to plan things far in advance.
Advice to Management: Try to better distribute the on-call burden among Field Service Technicians. More predictable scheduling would really improve work-life balance for those of us out in the field.

Okay Pay, Benefits Need a Boost in Charlotte
Pros: The base salary for Controls Engineers is pretty competitive for this industry. You also get a decent 401k match, which is standard for a big corporate company like Trane Technologies. It's a solid place to learn about HVAC solutions.
Cons: Health insurance premiums feel too high for what they cover, honestly. Annual raises for building automation roles are just okay, not amazing, so keeping up with inflation is tough. It's not the most modern benefits package.
Advice to Management: Improve the healthcare benefit packages to be more competitive and make sure annual compensation adjustments truly reflect market rates for engineering roles. Employees value that transparency.

Solid Role in a Stable Industry
Pros: Working as an HVAC Design Engineer in our Davidson, NC office, I've found job security here is really good. The HVAC industry keeps growing, so there's always demand for our climate control solutions. It's a large corporate company, so layoffs aren't a common worry for steady performers.
Cons: Sometimes it feels like you're just a number in such a big organization. While security is there, career advancement can be slow due to the sheer size. We do see internal reorganizations periodically, which can shake things up a bit.
Advice to Management: Keep communication clear during any reorganizations. Invest more in visible career paths for technical roles.

Okay place for engineers, but culture needs work
Pros: It's a stable job in the HVAC industry, which is good. My team was pretty solid and we helped each other out. There's decent benefits and a clear path for many Mechanical Engineer roles if you stick around.
Cons: The corporate environment can feel a bit old-school sometimes. It's tough to get new ideas approved quickly, and the bureaucracy slows things down. Sometimes, the Davidson, NC office felt a bit siloed between departments.
Advice to Management: Try to empower teams more and streamline approval processes. Encourage cross-departmental communication and embrace new technologies faster to stay competitive.

Pay is Just Okay, Benefits are Pretty Solid
Pros: The health insurance here is pretty good, honestly. My family hasn't had any issues with it. The 401k match for an HVAC Engineer is also decent, it vests fast. Plus, the hybrid work model is a nice perk.
Cons: Base salary for a big corporate company like this feels a bit low, even with experience. Don't expect huge bonuses or quick pay raises, they're not common. You might need to jump companies to get a significant salary bump.
Advice to Management: Really look at market rates for experienced HVAC Engineers. Investing more in competitive base pay would help with employee retention and attraction in the industry.
