Decent Pay, Benefits Need a Boost
Pros: The salary for technical roles like mine was definitely competitive. Annual raises were consistently fair if you hit your goals. The health insurance was also pretty okay for a mid-sized tech company.
Cons: PTO felt a bit stingy, not great compared to industry standards. No 401k match at all, which is a big miss. Dental and vision plans were super basic, too.
Advice to Management: Seriously consider adding a 401k match. It's a dealbreaker for many. Also, a more robust PTO policy would help attract top talent for future IT operations roles.

Slow Growth for Junior Software Engineers
Pros: The team is supportive, which helped me learn about various DevOps tools. They also have a solid remote work-from-home policy. It's a pretty chill environment overall.
Cons: Career growth is definitely slow here, especially for entry-level tech roles. There wasn't a clear path for promotion or any real mentorship programs. I felt stuck after about a year.
Advice to Management: Please create clearer career ladders and invest in dedicated mentorship programs for junior staff. It would help a lot with retention for the software development team.

Solid Team, But Culture Needs Work
Pros: The team is genuinely supportive. Colleagues, especially other Software Engineers, are always ready to help. We had some good team-building events in the Austin, TX office. It's a growing SaaS startup, so there's always new tech to learn.
Cons: The company culture can feel a bit fragmented, especially with the hybrid work model. Communication from upper management isn't always clear. Sometimes there's a disconnect between departments that affects agile development processes.
Advice to Management: Focus on building a more cohesive company culture across all teams. Improve communication strategy, especially for employees in hybrid work setups. Address the disconnects that affect our software development workflow.

Career growth is slow for technical roles here
Pros: You learn a lot about basic cloud infrastructure and operations support. It's a solid place if you're just starting out in DevOps. The Austin, TX office has good amenities.
Cons: There's no clear path for promotion or advancement as a Junior DevOps Engineer. I've been here over two years and haven't seen much change. Raises are just okay, not tied to performance much.
Advice to Management: Management needs to create clearer career development plans, especially for folks in technical roles. Define what it takes to get promoted and offer more training opportunities.

Leadership at OpsWerks is a mixed bag
Pros: Some of the team leads are genuinely supportive and understand the technical challenges. For a startup, they do try to keep the dev teams engaged, especially in terms of flexible hours for us remote employees.
Cons: Upper management communication feels very disconnected. There's a real lack of clear vision from the top, which makes it tough for engineering roles. It's hard to get clear answers on project priorities, and feedback loops are slow.
Advice to Management: Work on improving communication channels from the executive team down. Provide clearer roadmaps and strategic direction for engineering leadership to follow. Regular 1-on-1s for managers need better structure.
