Okay Pay, Work Flexibility Needs Improvement

It's a stable company with solid benefits, but the work flexibility can be a real hit or miss depending on your team and role. Not quite what I hoped for after the pandemic.

Pros

Job security is pretty solid here. For a big corporate company, the pay and benefits package is decent. Some engineering teams in the Santa Rosa, CA office do offer a hybrid model.

Cons

Work flexibility isn't consistent across teams. As a Software Engineer, I've found many test and measurement projects require more onsite time than expected. It doesn't always feel like a true hybrid experience, more like mandatory office days.

Advice to Management

Standardize the hybrid work policy for all engineering and R&D roles. Be more transparent about actual onsite requirements, especially for new hires in the electronics R&D sector.

Pay and Benefits are Decent, Could Be Better
Pros: Health insurance plans are solid. I've had good coverage for my family. The 401k match is generous for a big tech company. There's decent PTO for a Software Engineer. The hybrid work setup is a big plus for flexibility.
Cons: Base salaries for junior roles feel a bit low. Don't expect huge annual raises here. Bonuses aren't as strong as I'd hoped. It's tough to increase total comp in the test and measurement industry.
Advice to Management: Keysight management should review market rates for engineering compensation. Raising base salaries and improving bonus structures would help attract and retain talent in the test and measurement industry.

Solid place, but culture can be slow-moving
Pros: The job security is good for an established big corporate company in the test and measurement industry. Many colleagues in the Santa Rosa, CA office are genuinely smart and helpful, which makes daily work as a Software Engineer decent. There's a lot of institutional knowledge here.
Cons: The company culture feels a bit dated at times. It's hard to get new initiatives off the ground, and change is really slow. Sometimes it feels like bureaucracy gets in the way of innovation.
Advice to Management: Try to empower teams more and streamline decision-making. Embrace modern work styles and encourage more cross-functional collaboration. Listen to feedback from younger employees about company culture.

Okay Flexibility, But It Varies
Pros: Being remote from Austin, TX as a Software Engineer was a big plus. It's great to have that option for many of us on the development side. I could really manage my own day.
Cons: It's not the same for everyone though; I've heard hardware engineering roles often require more onsite time. Sometimes, even remote, it's tough to truly disconnect when project crunch times hit.
Advice to Management: Management should work on making flexible options more consistent across all divisions. Even for our test and measurement groups, some hybrid setups could really help morale.
