Leadership is hit or miss, honestly.

Working at Cartrack had its ups and downs, especially regarding the leadership structure. My direct manager was great, but the folks higher up felt pretty out of touch.

Pros

My direct manager was pretty supportive, which really helped as a Sales Consultant trying to hit targets in the competitive telematics industry. They were good about letting us manage our own client portfolios.

Cons

Upper leadership in the Johannesburg office felt a bit disconnected from daily operations. There's not much clear vision from the top for our fleet management solutions, which makes planning tough and sometimes decisions just don't make sense.

Advice to Management

Really try to communicate your strategy better to the teams on the ground. It would help everyone, especially those of us selling, understand where we're headed and make more informed choices.

Okay Pay, But Benefits Could Be Better
Pros: As a Sales Manager in the Johannesburg office, the base salary was pretty standard for this corporate environment. You can earn good money if you consistently smash your targets. There's potential here if you're a top performer.
Cons: The benefits package isn't very competitive; things like health insurance weren't great. Commission structure can be really tough to meet sometimes for fleet management solutions. It's hard to feel secure about your total compensation without constant high performance.
Advice to Management: Re-evaluate the benefits package to be more competitive. Consider making commission targets more realistic or offering clearer paths to higher bonuses for the sales team.

Okay Pay, But Benefits Could Be Better
Pros: The base pay for a Field Service Technician here in the Johannesburg office is actually decent. It's competitive for telematics solutions providers in the South African market, and I've always gotten paid on time.
Cons: The benefits package isn't great, honestly. There's not much room for significant pay increases unless you get a promotion. Health insurance options are pretty basic for field service roles, which is a downside.
Advice to Management: Look into improving the benefits package, especially health insurance and opportunities for regular pay raises for technical staff. It would really help with retention in the field.

Leadership could use some more consistency
Pros: Some senior managers are really great. They give you a lot of autonomy as a Sales Consultant. The team support in the tracking solutions industry is pretty solid, which helps when leadership isn't always there.
Cons: There's a real lack of consistent direction from upper management. Sometimes decisions feel really disconnected from day-to-day operations. It's tough to plan when things change quickly without clear communication.
Advice to Management: Focus on improving communication and providing clearer, more consistent strategic direction to all teams. Let managers empower their teams more.
