Company Reviews

Griddable.io is a San Jose, CA based SaaS startup that closed Series A funding in 2017 from August Capital, Artiman Ventures, and Carsten Thoma, founding CEO of Hybris (acquired by SAP).

The griddable.io concept was conceived by Rajeev Bharadhwaj, a serial entrepreneur with a vision to create a globally synchronized enterprise. He made a key decision to build-on vs. replace traditional databases and develop a new approach for synchronous data integration.

After identifying the Databus open source project at LinkedIn as a foundational technology, he recruited Chavdar Botev, the primary architect of Databus, and Burton Hipp, who co-founded a prior startup with Rajeev. Together they created the first griddable.io product, proved the technology at design partners, and recruited Robin Purohit as CEO, a software industry veteran known to the team from VERITAS and HP.

Solid startup, but growth can be slow.
Pros: I liked working on real-world data science problems. As a Data Engineer, I learned a lot about specific ML infrastructure. The team is super supportive. Remote work flexibility is great.
Cons: Career growth can feel really slow here. There isn't a super clear path for promotions. For a startup, I expected more upward mobility. It's tough to move into senior roles without an established framework.
Advice to Management: Build out clearer career paths for individual contributors. Define what it takes to get promoted. This would really help with retention for folks in data roles.

Okay culture, but sometimes stretched thin
Pros: I liked the remote-first setup; it's great for work-life balance if you manage your time well. The team is pretty collaborative for a small tech startup, especially among software engineering colleagues. We use some solid tech stacks.
Cons: The company culture can feel a bit fragmented since everyone's remote; it's hard to build strong connections. Sometimes it feels like there's not enough mentorship for junior engineers. You can also get siloed on projects easily.
Advice to Management: Focus on intentional team-building activities to foster connection among remote employees. Create clearer growth paths and mentorship programs, especially for engineering roles.

Growth is okay for a small AI startup
Pros: You get a lot of exposure to different parts of the platform engineering and AI/ML pipeline. As a Data Scientist, I've picked up so many new skills just by doing. The remote work flexibility is really good too.
Cons: Career growth feels pretty unstructured, especially for data science roles. There's not a clear path for promotions or skill development. It's a fast-paced startup, so formal training often takes a backseat to shipping features.
Advice to Management: Management should really think about creating more defined career ladders. It'd help folks see a future here. Maybe offer some budget for external courses or conferences for us, especially in the AI/ML space.
