Okay Pay, Benefits Need a Boost Here
Pros: As an Associate in the New York City office, my base salary was pretty competitive for strategic communications. The health insurance is solid, which is a big deal in the PR industry. It felt like decent compensation for someone starting out in corporate consulting.
Cons: The bonus structure isn't great; it's hard to make a significant difference in total compensation. PTO policies also feel a bit stingy for a big corporate firm, especially with the hours we put in. I've definitely seen better overall packages elsewhere.
Advice to Management: Rethink the bonus potential for Associates and junior staff. Also, consider more generous PTO for the demanding work environment, especially for those in the New York office.

Tough Hours, Good Learning for Comms Pros
Pros: You learn so much in strategic communications. For an Associate Consultant, the exposure to high-profile clients is solid. There's a decent hybrid work setup when things aren't too crazy.
Cons: Work-life balance can be really tough here. Expect long hours, especially during client crises or big pitches. It's hard to switch off, even outside the London office.
Advice to Management: Try to staff better to avoid constant crunch times for those in Associate Consultant roles. Encourage teams to respect boundaries after hours.

Decent Corporate Agency, Culture Has Room to Grow
Pros: I've learned a ton as an Associate Consultant here, especially in strategic communications. The team in the Washington D.C. office is generally smart and supportive. You get exposure to big corporate clients, which is great for your resume.
Cons: The company culture can feel a bit formal sometimes, not always the most collaborative across teams. Work-life balance is tough; it's common for public relations professionals to work late nights. There's not much flexibility for remote work, mostly onsite.
Advice to Management: Try to encourage more cross-team collaboration and rethink expectations around work hours to improve work-life balance for public relations staff.
