Okay place, but growth is tough
Pros: I've gotta say, the hybrid work model is a huge plus, letting me balance my time in the Seattle office. Benefits are actually pretty solid for a big corporate company, especially the health insurance and PTO.
Cons: Career growth as a Software Engineer is really tough here though. It feels like there's no clear path to move up unless someone quits, which is frustrating. Projects can get pretty stagnant, too.
Advice to Management: Management needs to create clearer career paths for individual contributors. It would help retain talented software engineers if there were more opportunities for advancement within the company.

Okay company, but work-life balance is rough
Pros: I liked the hybrid work model; it gave me some flexibility. The team in the Seattle office was really supportive. We did get decent benefits for a mid-sized tech company.
Cons: Work-life balance is definitely a struggle here. As a Project Manager, I often put in 50+ hour weeks, sometimes more. Deadlines for software development projects felt constant, and management didn't always push back on client demands. It's hard to truly disconnect.
Advice to Management: Please rethink project scoping and staffing for tech project roles. Empower managers to say no to unreasonable client timelines. This would help prevent burnout for Project Managers and improve overall work-life balance.

Leadership's Okay, But Needs More Cohesion
Pros: I've had some really good direct managers, which makes a huge difference. They genuinely care about your career path, especially for Product roles. The hybrid work model is also solid, helping with work-life balance.
Cons: Upper leadership can be a bit disconnected sometimes. There's not always a clear vision for the company's product strategy. Some decisions feel out of touch with the team's reality in the Austin office, typical of a mid-size corporate environment.
Advice to Management: Work on consistent communication from the top. Invest in training for mid-level managers on how to lead effectively and give clear direction.

Hybrid work is a plus, but watch out for crunch time.
Pros: The hybrid work model is pretty solid for us Software Engineer roles, giving a lot of flexibility. Being able to WFH a few days a week is a huge perk, especially with the San Francisco commute. It helps with personal appointments.
Cons: Sometimes, especially with big project deadlines in the tech industry, the hours can get really intense. It's definitely not a consistent 40-hour week; there are periods where it feels much more demanding. It can be tough to unplug.
Advice to Management: Try to manage project scopes better to avoid constant crunch times. Support managers more in protecting their teams' personal time and encouraging a true work-life balance, not just offering WFH but expecting constant availability.

Job security isn't its strong suit
Pros: The team itself is pretty solid, and I really liked the people I worked with as a Marketing Specialist. They do offer decent health benefits, which is a plus for a mid-sized corporate company.
Cons: Job security here isn't great, especially for roles in the digital marketing industry. There's always a feeling of uncertainty, and I saw a few rounds of layoffs in the Chicago office during my time. It's tough to plan long-term when you're not sure if your role will even exist next quarter.
Advice to Management: Leadership needs to be more transparent about the company's financial health and strategic direction to improve job security. Regular communication would help ease employee anxieties.

Okay Pay, Benefits Need Some Work
Pros: The base salary is pretty competitive for a Marketing Coordinator here. I felt like I was paid fairly for the work I did in this mid-sized corporate environment. They do offer annual performance bonuses, which is a nice touch.
Cons: The health insurance options aren't great, honestly. High deductibles make it tough. Also, the 401k match is pretty weak; it's less than what I've seen at other companies in Seattle, WA. PTO accrual felt a bit slow for long-term employees.
Advice to Management: Revisit the benefits package, especially health insurance and the 401k match. Better benefits could help attract and retain talent in a competitive market.

SJ Group's Culture: It's a Mixed Bag
Pros: The team here is really tight-knit, especially for a mid-sized tech company. As a Software Engineer, I felt like my immediate squad had my back. There's a strong sense of camaraderie within individual development teams; people genuinely want to help each other out with coding challenges.
Cons: Upper management's communication felt pretty siloed, which hurt overall morale. It often felt like decisions came out of nowhere. The company culture struggled with transparency; sometimes you didn't know where things stood, impacting project timelines and team spirit.
Advice to Management: Focus on clearer, more consistent communication from the top down. Invest in leadership training to build a more cohesive company culture across departments, not just within individual teams.

Leadership Needs to Step Up Big Time
Pros: Some of the senior leadership team are genuinely supportive and have good technical vision. They're usually approachable, which is nice. For us individual contributors in the software development team, it means you can learn from them sometimes.
Cons: Middle management is where things fall apart. There's often a lack of clear project management direction, which causes a lot of rework. It's tough to get clear answers, and this impacts our day-to-day work in the San Francisco office.
Advice to Management: Focus on training and empowering middle management. Provide clear guidance on project goals and communication expectations, especially for those managing hybrid teams.

Decent flexibility, but depends on your team
Pros: As a Software Engineer, I've had a solid hybrid setup, usually in the Austin office two days a week. It's nice to have remote options when life happens, which is a big plus for technical roles. They generally support working from home for software development work.
Cons: Some teams, especially non-technical ones, don't get the same flexibility. My manager sometimes pushed for more in-office days than company policy, which felt inconsistent. It's not fully remote if that's what you're hoping for.
Advice to Management: Encourage consistent flexibility across all departments, not just technical ones. Support managers better in implementing WFH policies fairly for everyone.

Job Security is Okay, But Project Dependant
Pros: If you land on a stable project, your spot feels pretty secure as a Junior Software Engineer. There's a decent amount of work in the software development industry here. The onsite benefits package is solid.
Cons: But job security can feel shaky when projects get cancelled out of nowhere. It's tough when your project gets pulled, and re-assignment isn't a guarantee in this mid-sized corporate environment. This makes you worry about your next steps.
Advice to Management: Try to provide more stable project pathways for employees. When projects end, it'd be great if there were clearer internal transfer or re-skilling options instead of just letting people go.
