Okay Flexibility, But Hybrid Policy Is Stiff

Worked at Signify in the lighting technology division for a few years. It's a big company with some decent benefits, but the work flexibility could be better, especially with the current hybrid setup.

Pros

You do get a bit of flexibility as a Software Engineer, especially when needing to run errands or adjust your start time. The hybrid model in the Burlington, MA office means you're not always chained to your desk, which is a plus for some.

Cons

However, the official hybrid policy often feels more like mandatory office days than true flexibility. It's hard to get full remote work approval for specific situations. This can make it tough to plan for personal appointments.

Advice to Management

Revisit the hybrid work policy. More trust and actual flexibility for lighting technology teams would boost morale and productivity. Consider allowing more remote options.

Culture needs work, some good people though
Pros: I liked my team; they were genuinely supportive and friendly. The hybrid model was okay; I could WFH a few days, which helped my work-life balance.
Cons: The overall company culture feels pretty top-down and old school for a big corporate. It's tough to get new ideas accepted for our lighting solutions. There's also too much bureaucracy, especially in the Burlington, MA office.
Advice to Management: Listen more to the engineering teams. Try to break down some of the internal silos and really embrace innovation in smart lighting, not just talk about it.

Decent Hybrid Model for Engineers, Room for Improvement
Pros: I appreciate the hybrid model; it's really helpful. WFH a couple days a week makes a big difference for life in the Piscataway, NJ area. For Software Engineer roles, this work arrangement is pretty solid and aids work-life balance.
Cons: It's not truly remote; you still have to be in the office a few days, which limits some flexibility. Sometimes project deadlines in the smart lighting industry mean less WFH, even with the hybrid setup. The core office hours can be a bit rigid too.
Advice to Management: Give teams more autonomy on WFH days. True work flexibility means trusting employees to get work done, not just setting office attendance quotas. It would really help morale and retain talent in the competitive tech industry.

Pay is Okay, Benefits are Standard Here
Pros: The base salary for a Software Engineer at the Eindhoven office isn't terrible. You get decent health insurance. It's a big corporate company, so there's a stable pension plan.
Cons: Raises are pretty small, and bonuses aren't very competitive for the lighting solutions industry. I've felt a bit underpaid compared to market rates. There aren't many extra perks or innovative benefits.
Advice to Management: Management should really look into making salaries more competitive, especially for experienced engineering roles. Boosting annual raises and improving the bonus structure would help a lot with retention. Also, adding some more modern benefits could attract top talent.
