Career growth isn't a straight line here

It's a decent place to work, especially if you're okay with slower career progression. The work itself is interesting in the HR tech space.


Pros

Good benefits package. As a remote Software Engineer, I did get to work on some interesting features within their cloud software. Teams are generally collaborative.


Cons

Career growth for engineering roles can feel really slow. There's not much clear path to promotion unless you really push for it. It feels like there aren't enough senior opportunities in this big corporate SaaS company.


Advice to Management

Create clearer career development plans for individual contributors, especially for remote engineering teams. More transparency on promotion criteria would really help.

Okay for a Start, Stagnant Growth.
Pros: I learned a lot about the HR software industry initially. There are solid teams, and the hybrid work model is decent for work-life balance. I felt pretty supported by my direct manager as a Software Engineer.
Cons: Career growth felt pretty slow for technical roles. There wasn't much room to move up or switch tracks easily in the Toronto office. You kinda get stuck doing the same tasks for a long time.

Work-life balance can be tough for consultants
Pros: I liked being fully remote, which really helped with personal appointments. The company does offer good PTO, and you're encouraged to use it. For some standard internal development roles, I heard it was more stable.
Cons: As an Implementation Consultant, project deadlines often mean long days, especially during go-live. It's hard to maintain a consistent 40-hour work week in the HCM software space. Client demands can be unpredictable and impact your evenings.
Advice to Management: Try to staff projects better to prevent consultant burnout. Standardize expectations for client-facing roles regarding evening and weekend work. Protect work-life balance for all employees.
