Solid job security, but career growth is slow

Pros: The job security is actually pretty solid here. Once you're in, you're usually in for the long haul, especially for us working in core lab work within the biotechnology industry. It's a stable place, no big layoffs I saw during my time.
Cons: However, don't expect fast career growth as a Research Associate; promotions are rare. The company feels a bit family-owned, which limits innovation and new opportunities for advancement, especially in the Penang office. You can get comfortable, but it can feel like a dead end after a while.
Advice to Management: Try to create clearer career paths and offer more opportunities for professional development for your scientific staff. Investing in more modern equipment could also help attract and retain talent in R&D roles. Show more

Pay isn't great, but benefits are okay

Pros: They do offer a solid health insurance plan for employees and dependents, which is a big plus. There's also some professional development budget if you push for it, helpful for a Research Scientist.
Cons: The base salary for Research Scientist roles is pretty low, even compared to other companies in Malaysia. Annual raises are barely above inflation, so don't expect much growth there.
Advice to Management: Seriously reconsider compensation packages for biotech professionals. Fair pay retains talent, especially for Research Scientist positions in competitive markets like Kuala Lumpur. Show more
