Solid place if you like challenges.
Pros: The teams are full of really smart folks. You learn a ton working on cutting-edge cloud software. We do get decent snacks and a pretty solid benefits package. The hybrid work setup is nice too, gives you flexibility.
Cons: The company culture can feel a bit fragmented. There's often a 'move fast and break things' mentality, which creates a lot of pressure. Leadership's communication isn't always clear, especially for a SaaS startup.
Advice to Management: Focus on clearer communication from the top down. Try to foster a more cohesive team environment across different departments. Give teams more breathing room to do quality work without constant crunch.

Decent Pay, Benefits Could Be Better
Pros: The base salary for a Software Engineer here is quite competitive in the San Jose, CA office. The annual bonus structure is also decent, usually hits expectations, which is good for financial planning. They do offer a 401k match, which is a definite plus.
Cons: The health insurance options aren't the best; premiums feel a bit high for what you get. Stock refreshers aren't as generous as I've seen at other data management companies. Vacation time starts okay, but doesn't really scale up much initially.
Advice to Management: Look into enhancing the health benefits and consider more aggressive stock refreshers to retain top talent, especially for senior data management engineers.

Good team leads, but executive leadership needs work
Pros: My immediate manager was awesome. They really advocated for our team, especially on complex data management projects. There's good remote work flexibility too, which is a big plus for a growing tech company.
Cons: The higher-up leadership changes a lot, which makes getting a consistent vision tough. As a Senior Software Engineer, I felt the direction for new initiatives in cybersecurity software could be clearer. Communication from the top felt a bit scattered sometimes.
Advice to Management: Focus on more consistent communication from executive leadership. A clearer, more stable roadmap for new product development would help everyone.

Work-life balance can be a bit of a mixed bag
Pros: I appreciate the flexibility of the hybrid work model. As a Software Engineer in the San Jose office, I've found it easier to handle personal stuff compared to fully onsite jobs. Some teams are good about protecting people's time, so you can mostly stick to normal hours.
Cons: Work-life balance here often feels tough, especially when we're crunching on new data management solutions. It's not uncommon to work more than 40 hours a week, and sometimes it feels like leadership expects it. This can be draining.
Advice to Management: Management should really try to protect teams from scope creep and unrealistic deadlines. It impacts the Software Engineer teams' ability to maintain a healthy work-life balance when trying to deliver on enterprise storage solutions.

Leadership Has Its Moments, Room to Grow
Pros: Some senior managers are really sharp and know the data management solutions space inside and out. As a Software Engineer, I've learned a lot from direct leads on project execution. They do have a clear vision for the product roadmap.
Cons: There's a disconnect sometimes between executive leadership and day-to-day teams in the San Jose campus. Decisions can feel top-down and communication isn't always clear about why changes happen. It feels like middle management is often just executing mandates.
Advice to Management: Work on improving transparency and communication from the very top. It would help teams understand the bigger picture and feel more aligned with company goals, especially in a growing tech company like Cohesity. Involve engineering leads more in strategic planning.

Decent place for tech, but culture shifting
Pros: Good benefits, especially for a big tech company. The health plans are solid. You get to work with smart people, especially in the core engineering teams, which is great for learning in cloud storage. The hybrid work model from our Sunnyvale, CA office is pretty flexible.
Cons: The company culture isn't what it used to be. It feels less collaborative now, which is a real bummer. There's a lot of reorgs that make things feel unstable, especially for engineering roles. Work-life balance can get a bit skewed during crunch times.
Advice to Management: Focus on stabilizing teams and clearly communicating strategic goals. Bring back some of that early Cohesity collaborative spirit for all engineering roles. It would help a lot with team morale.

WFH Life Isn't Bad for Engineering Roles
Pros: It's good to be a Software Engineer here with the WFH options. I've been working remote from Texas, and that flexibility really helps with personal life. The company generally supports flexible hours if you get your work done in the data management software industry.
Cons: While remote work is available, some teams or managers push for more 'always on' presence. It's not always consistent, and I've seen some roles, especially non-engineering, struggle for the same level of flexibility. You might feel more pressure to be available than at some other big tech companies.
Advice to Management: Keep pushing for consistent work flexibility policies across all departments, not just for engineering roles. Train managers better on how to effectively lead remote teams and support a true WFH culture.

Job Security is Okay, but Stay Nimble
Pros: For those of us working as Senior Software Engineers, job security has felt decent, especially given the company's strong position in the data security industry. Cohesity is a growing startup that continues to secure significant funding, which helps calm nerves about market fluctuations. Good technical talent is always valued, even remote from home.
Cons: However, like many growing startups, there are frequent reorganizations that can make you question your stability. The multi-cloud data management space is competitive, so changes happen. You just don't know what's next sometimes, making some roles feel less secure.
Advice to Management: Keep employees informed about strategic changes and market conditions. More transparency around reorgs would build trust, especially for remote teams.

Leadership has potential, but needs better focus
Pros: My direct manager was usually solid, and I felt supported as a software engineer. There are really smart people here, especially on the technical side, trying to build innovative data security solutions. It's a growing tech company with decent pay.
Cons: The senior leadership team often feels disconnected from the day-to-day. Strategic vision changes too much, which makes it tough for teams to execute effectively. Sometimes, it felt like there's a lack of clear direction from the top, impacting project timelines.
Advice to Management: Try to be more transparent with the larger team. Consistency in strategic direction would really help everyone stay aligned. Focus on empowering middle management more.

Decent for now, but a bit uncertain lately
Pros: As a Customer Support Engineer, I like working with their data management and cloud backup products; they're genuinely innovative. The work is steady and the team is solid. We're in a crucial cybersecurity sector, which always feels good.
Cons: Lately, there's been some worry. Seeing others laid off is tough. For a big tech company, the future feels less stable than it used to. It's hard to ignore the restructuring rumors going around the remote teams, especially those of us remote from Texas.
Advice to Management: Communicate more openly about company direction and avoid sudden, unexpected changes. It really helps calm the remote teams when there's transparency.
