It's Decent, But Can Get Busy
My time as a Software Engineer at UST in Dallas, TX was generally okay. The work-life balance for my tech consulting role had its ups and downs, depending a lot on the client project.
I liked the flexibility with the hybrid model; it's nice not to be in the office every day. For a large corporate IT services company, they do try to offer some WFH options, which helps a lot. When projects are calm, it's pretty standard 40-hour weeks.
The biggest issue is project-dependent workloads; sometimes you're easily pulling 50-60 hour weeks. As a Software Engineer, client deadlines can be brutal, and there's pressure to deliver. It makes long-term planning outside of work tough.
Try to better manage client expectations and resource allocation so projects don't constantly push engineers into overtime. A more consistent workload would really improve morale and retention for tech consulting roles.
