Hybrid Work Is Fine, But Needs Tweaks
Pros: I do appreciate the hybrid work model; it's generally 3 days in the Marietta, GA office and 2 days remote. This setup helps a lot with my commute and personal life. The job security is decent, especially in the growing material handling industry.
Cons: Work flexibility for Software Engineer roles can feel a bit rigid. It's hard to adjust hours for personal appointments without a lot of pushback. True remote options are rare, even for roles that seem suitable.
Advice to Management: Consider offering more true remote options or at least more flexible core hours. Empower managers to approve time-off without so much red tape.

Culture is fine, but can feel a bit old-school
Pros: My immediate team in the Marietta office is really supportive. We collaborate well on material handling systems projects. There's a decent sense of stability here, which is good.
Cons: The overall company culture feels pretty top-down. It's tough to get new initiatives off the ground in this large corporate environment. There's not much recognition for individual contributions either, even for software engineering roles.
Advice to Management: Focus on empowering mid-level managers. Encourage more bottom-up ideas, especially for those in software engineering. Improve communication between departments.

Tough to climb the ladder here
Pros: You get a lot of exposure to various automation projects early on as a Project Engineer. It's solid experience for understanding complex material handling solutions. There's good access to training resources if you seek them out yourself.
Cons: Career growth for engineers feels pretty slow, especially once you're past the entry level. There isn't much of a clear path for advancement or mentorship programs. Moving up often means waiting for someone to leave, which isn't ideal in a large corporate structure.
Advice to Management: Create clearer career development plans for Project Engineer roles. Implement a formal mentorship program to help people see their next steps and grow within the material handling industry.

Leadership needs to trust its engineers more
Pros: The benefits package is pretty solid for a big corporate gig. I've learned a ton about **logistics automation** as a **Controls Engineer**. My immediate team in Marietta is great, we really help each other out.
Cons: Upper management struggles with clear decisions, which can really drag on our **baggage handling systems** projects. There's way too much micromanaging, especially from managers who aren't technical. It feels like they don't really trust our expertise.
Advice to Management: Empower your technical teams more. Stop the micromanagement and really listen to the experts on the ground. Invest in better leadership training for middle managers.

Work-life balance is okay, but it really varies
Pros: I liked the flexibility for hybrid work when projects weren't intense. You could mostly stick to a 40-hour week. The benefits package for a corporate environment is pretty solid too, with decent PTO.
Cons: As a Project Engineer, crunch times for big logistics automation projects mean long hours. Sometimes I felt like I was always on call, even during a hybrid work setup. There's also a lot of travel involved for commissioning.
Advice to Management: Try to better manage workloads for Project Engineers during peak project phases. Maybe hire more staff or implement clearer boundaries for after-hours work. Burnout is a real issue.

Pay is decent, but benefits could improve.
Pros: The base salary as a Project Engineer here is pretty solid, especially for the Marietta, GA office. I've seen good annual raises, which helps with cost of living. There's a decent 401k match too.
Cons: Health insurance plans aren't great; high deductibles make them tough to use. The bonus structure for this global company feels really opaque. I wish they offered better wellness programs or WFH stipends.
Advice to Management: Re-evaluate the health insurance options and make the bonus structure more transparent. Investing in better benefits would really help retain talent.

Leadership is hit or miss at Vanderlande
Pros: Some senior leaders really get the material handling business. If you're lucky, your direct manager offers solid support for project engineer tasks. They do invest in technology for warehouse automation.
Cons: Consistency in leadership is a real problem across departments. You'll see a lot of micromanagement from some middle managers in the Atlanta office. Overall company direction from top leadership can feel a bit unclear. Career progression for roles like project engineer often feels stagnant.
Advice to Management: Focus on developing middle management. Improve communication from the top down and ensure a consistent vision across all departments. Invest in clearer career paths for individual contributors.

Good learning, slow career growth here
Pros: They have decent training for new grads. You get to work on big **material handling** projects. It's a great way to learn about complex **automation systems** from the ground up.
Cons: Moving up is tough after a few years. There isn't much internal promotion, especially for senior **Controls Engineer** positions. My **career growth** felt pretty stagnant in the **Atlanta office**.
Advice to Management: Management should create clearer pathways for **engineering roles**. Invest more in internal development for folks wanting senior **automation systems** positions. Don't just rely on hiring externally.

Career Growth is Tough at Vanderlande
Pros: The training programs are actually pretty solid if you can get into them. I've definitely learned a lot about complex material handling systems. Plus, job security feels really stable in this industry.
Cons: The biggest issue is the lack of clear promotion paths for technical roles like Software Engineer. It's hard to see what you need to do to get to the next level in the Marietta, GA office. You often just do similar tasks for a long time.
Advice to Management: Make career paths clearer for technical roles. Invest more in promoting from within and showing employees how to get to the next level instead of just relying on external hires.

Okay culture, but big corporate vibes
Pros: The team in the Atlanta, GA office was really solid; we had good camaraderie. It's interesting working in the logistics automation space, developing software for material handling systems. You learn a lot if you stick with it.
Cons: It's a big corporate company, so things move slow with a lot of red tape. There's not much flexibility for hybrid or remote work for software engineer roles, mostly onsite work. We'd often stay late, which hurt my work-life balance.
Advice to Management: Try to empower project teams more to make quicker decisions. Also, consider more flexible work options, especially for software engineer roles, to improve work-life balance.
