Leadership needs a reality check sometimes

My time at IDC as a Research Analyst was a mixed bag, mostly due to leadership. While some immediate managers were great mentors, the higher-ups often felt out of touch with the actual market intelligence work we did. The remote work flexibility was a big plus, though.

Pros

Some of the team leads are really good at mentoring, especially for junior Research Analyst roles. I've learned a ton about market intelligence from them. The remote setup is solid for work-life balance.

Cons

Upper leadership often feels disconnected from the day-to-day. Decisions for IT research strategy can feel top-down, without much input from people on the ground. There's a lack of clear communication from senior management.

Advice to Management

Try to involve managers and individual contributors in strategic planning for market intelligence projects. More open dialogue from corporate leadership would go a long way.

Stable but slow for Market Research
Pros: IDC is a really solid corporate company. As a Market Research Analyst here, you don't really worry about job security much. It's stable, especially in the tech analysis industry, and layoffs aren't common.
Cons: Career growth can feel pretty slow, though. Raises aren't huge, and sometimes the work gets repetitive for junior roles. It's not a fast-paced environment.
Advice to Management: Try to find ways to speed up career progression and offer more competitive compensation packages for long-term employees.

Okay Benefits, Salary Could Be Better
Pros: The health benefits are actually pretty solid for a big tech research company. There's good medical coverage and the 401k match is decent after a year. For folks in our Framingham, MA office, the commute support is also a nice touch.
Cons: Base salaries for Market Research Analyst roles feel a bit low, especially compared to the broader tech industry. Raises aren't huge, so it's tough to keep up with inflation. Don't expect huge bonuses either.
Advice to Management: Review salary bands for all roles, especially for data analysis and market intelligence positions. Bring them closer to industry standards to retain talent.

Okay for learning, but growth feels slow
Pros: I got to learn a lot about IT research and market intelligence, which was really cool. As a Research Analyst in the Framingham office, I worked on some interesting projects and definitely built up solid analytical skills. It's a good spot if you're just starting out in this corporate environment.
Cons: Honestly, career growth here felt pretty stagnant after a while. There aren't many clear paths to move up, especially for non-management roles, and internal promotions are tough to come by. I felt like I hit a ceiling, and you really have to fight for any significant pay increase or title change.
Advice to Management: Create clearer pathways for Research Analyst career progression. Invest in internal mobility programs and offer more mentorship for those looking to advance beyond their current roles.
