Package Handler

Solid Job Security, Hard Work Required
Pros: As a Package Handler, I felt pretty secure in my role. There's always work in the logistics industry, especially for a big company like UPS. The union protects your job, which is a huge plus.
Cons: It's tough physical work, so some people don't last. While my job felt secure, moving up to other roles like driver roles can be slow. Promotions are competitive.
Advice to Management: Keep investing in employee development for internal promotions. It would really help retain more experienced staff beyond entry-level Package Handler roles.

Solid Benefits, But Starting Pay is Tough
Pros: The union benefits are truly great once you hit seniority, especially the healthcare coverage and pension plan. For a large shipping company like UPS, these benefits are pretty competitive, even for onsite logistics roles at the Dallas, TX hub. It's a major plus for long-term employees.
Cons: Starting pay as a Package Handler is definitely tough. You really feel it during the first couple of years, it's hard to make ends meet. Raises aren't super quick, especially for entry-level logistics roles.
Advice to Management: Look into making the initial pay for new package handlers more livable. It's really hard to attract and retain good people when they're struggling at the start.

Delivery Driver

Solid benefits, but hourly pay can be tough
Pros: The health insurance is a major plus here. You get really good coverage for you and your family. The pension plan is also a big draw, which isn't common everywhere. For union roles, the job security and benefits are probably the best part.
Cons: Starting pay as a delivery driver can be pretty low. It takes a long time to hit top pay rates. Raises don't come as fast as you'd like, especially for the heavy workload we often have. It feels like you're underpaid for a while.
Advice to Management: Look at the starting wages for package handlers and delivery drivers. It's hard to attract new talent when the entry-level pay is so low. Appreciate the union benefits, but keep an eye on hourly compensation.
