Solid Job, But Growth Can Be Slow
Pros: As a Retail Assistant, I've felt pretty secure here. MR DIY is a big home improvement chain in Malaysia, so layoffs aren't a huge worry. It's a stable company, especially if you're comfortable with an onsite role.
Cons: While my job security is good, moving up in the retail industry can take ages at MR DIY. Don't expect quick promotions or tons of new management opportunities. It's more about staying put in your current role.
Advice to Management: Management should really look into creating more structured career progression plans for store staff. It would help retain good employees and show there's a future beyond just staying in the same position.

Okay for a start, but don't expect much
Pros: The basic pay for a Retail Assistant is decent enough to get by, especially for entry-level positions in the retail industry. You also get some annual leave and basic medical benefits, which is common for large retail chains like MR DIY in Malaysia.
Cons: Raises are really slow, almost nonexistent, even after years. The bonus structure isn't great, so don't count on big payouts. It's tough to save much working in the Kuala Lumpur office.
Advice to Management: Look into more competitive pay structures and clearer paths for raises and promotions, especially for long-term staff. It's tough to retain good talent when the pay progression is so slow.

Decent Job Security for Store Roles
Pros: As a Retail Assistant, I felt pretty secure in my position. MR DIY is a large retail chain in the home improvement industry, so there's always work. Regular shifts and minimal layoffs make it a stable place to be.
Cons: While job security is solid, career growth for retail roles isn't always clear. It can feel like a dead end if you're looking to move up quickly. Also, the pay and benefits are just okay for the amount of onsite work we do.
Advice to Management: Focus on clearer career paths and more training programs for current staff. It would help with motivation and retention, especially for those in store operations looking to move up the ladder.
