Leadership here is a bit of a mixed bag

Working at Intellect as a Software Engineer has its ups and downs, especially with the leadership style. The team itself is great, and remote work is a plus, but upper management could use some improvement in communication and strategy.

Pros

The immediate team support is really good within the `engineering` department. I appreciate the `remote work` setup; it's pretty flexible for `Software Engineer` roles. We also get to work on some interesting `AI product development`.

Cons

Upper `leadership` often makes decisions without enough input from our `engineering` teams. Communication from the top down can be inconsistent, especially for `remote` employees. There's also a lack of clear strategic direction sometimes, which definitely affects project timelines and overall morale.

Advice to Management

Try to involve individual contributors more in strategic planning. Better, more consistent communication would also help `remote` teams feel more connected and informed about the company's direction.

Decent benefits, but base pay needs work
Pros: The health benefits package is pretty solid for a startup in the mental health tech industry. You get good medical, dental, and vision, which is a big plus. They also offer a useful WFH stipend.
Cons: The base salary for Software Engineer roles feels a bit low compared to other companies, even for a startup. There aren't many opportunities for significant bonuses either. It's just not competitive enough.
Advice to Management: Really look at market rates for Software Engineer compensation. Boosting base salaries would make a huge difference in retention and attracting top talent. Don't rely solely on benefits to make up the gap.

Startup life is exciting, but also uncertain
Pros: I liked working on real-world problems in mental health tech. The remote setup was pretty good, letting me work from anywhere. My team for backend development was super collaborative and smart.
Cons: Job security isn't great here, especially for Software Engineer roles. There's always a worry about runway or market shifts for a fast-growing startup. They've had some team restructuring, which makes you nervous.
Advice to Management: Focus more on sustainable growth over rapid expansion. Employees need to feel a bit more secure, especially in key technical roles like engineering. Be more transparent about the company's financial health.

Decent mission, but pay could be better
Pros: The health benefits, especially for mental health, are a huge plus. They walk the talk with their own digital wellness platform access. As a Product Manager, I appreciated the unlimited PTO, though using it fully was tough sometimes.
Cons: Base salary for my Product Manager role felt low compared to other tech startups in the region. There isn't much room for salary negotiation unless you're a really senior hire. The compensation structure for mental health tech generally lags a bit.
Advice to Management: Re-evaluate salary bands, especially for experienced hires in core product roles. Being a tech startup doesn't mean compensation can't be competitive with bigger players. Invest more in performance bonuses.
