Demanding workload, but you learn a ton.
Pros: I've learned so much as a Consultant here. The projects are complex and diverse, which is great for career growth in construction consulting. You get to work with smart people and there's good exposure to senior leadership.
Cons: Work-life balance here is definitely tough. Expect long hours, especially when projects are ramping up or nearing deadlines. Travel requirements can be brutal, making it hard to maintain a consistent personal life outside of the New York City office.
Advice to Management: Try to implement more predictable work schedules and better manage client expectations around timelines to ease the pressure on Consultants. More remote options could help.

Leadership could use a shake-up
Pros: You learn a ton working on complex construction disputes here. The teams I worked with in the New York office were solid, and it's a good place to start in the consulting industry if you're new.
Cons: Leadership can be pretty out of touch. Decisions often feel top-down without much input from junior or mid-level Associate Consultants. It's tough to feel heard sometimes.
Advice to Management: Try to get more feedback from employees below the partner level. Create clearer paths for ideas to flow upwards, especially from newer Associate Consultants.

Tough to grow for a junior consultant
Pros: I've worked on some really interesting dispute resolution cases here. You get good exposure to senior experts, which is a big plus for a global consultancy. The project variety can be decent.
Cons: But career growth for junior consultant roles is pretty slow. There isn't a clear promotion path, and mentorship feels hit-or-miss. It's tough to see how you move up the ladder here, even with solid performance.
Advice to Management: Management needs to create clearer career paths and consistent mentorship programs for consultants. Investing in development for junior staff would really help with retention.

Decent job security, but workload is tough
Pros: HKA is a global firm, so there's always work. As a Forensic Accountant, I felt secure even through economic shifts; the project pipeline for construction disputes stayed solid. The benefits package is decent.
Cons: The workload can be really intense, especially during expert witness preparation. Work-life balance in the NYC office is often a struggle, even with hybrid work options. Growth can feel slow for mid-level roles, sometimes feeling stuck.
Advice to Management: Leadership should focus on better resource allocation to manage consultant workloads, especially for those working on complex litigation support engagements. It'd help a lot with burnout.

Culture could use a refresh for consultants
Pros: I've met some really smart people working as a Consultant in the New York City office. It's a pretty solid place to learn, especially if you're into forensic consulting. The hybrid work setup is a big plus for personal flexibility.
Cons: Company culture here is tough, sometimes it feels really hierarchical. There's not enough emphasis on new ideas from junior staff. It's hard to feel truly valued beyond project deadlines for many of us.
Advice to Management: Listen more to what junior staff have to say. Foster a more inclusive environment that values diverse perspectives, not just top-down directives.

Decent Start in Claims Consulting, Then It Slows
Pros: As a Consultant in the Dallas office, I've gotten solid experience right off the bat. They expose you to a lot of different construction disputes, which is great for learning the ropes. The initial training for new hires is pretty good too.
Cons: The career growth path isn't always clear after your first couple of years. For junior consultants, it feels like you're stuck sometimes unless you really push hard. Getting promoted in claims consulting takes a long time here, it's tough to get significant leadership roles.
Advice to Management: Make the career progression framework clearer, especially for mid-level consultants. Provide more structured opportunities for leadership and project management. Regular check-ins on career goals would also help keep people engaged.

Forensic Analyst

Pay's okay, but benefits could be better for consultants.
Pros: The base salary as a forensic analyst isn't bad for someone starting out in the dispute resolution industry. You get a yearly bonus too, which is a nice perk. My health benefits package was pretty solid overall.
Cons: Raises are slow and it feels like compensation doesn't really keep up with the market in Dallas. Retirement plan matching is pretty low compared to other consulting firms I've seen. Doesn't feel like they value retention for experienced staff.
Advice to Management: Look at increasing the 401k match to be competitive with other consulting firms. Also, regularly review base salaries to ensure they're keeping pace with inflation and the market, especially for senior staff.

Decent Corporate Consulting Firm, Culture Needs Work
Pros: I've met some genuinely smart people here, especially in the Dallas office. The exposure to diverse construction disputes as a consultant is really good for learning. There's a collaborative vibe within project teams when deadlines aren't crushing.
Cons: The corporate culture can feel pretty hierarchical and old-fashioned. Work flexibility isn't great, it's mostly an onsite presence expected, even for routine tasks. Sometimes it feels like there's not enough emphasis on modern employee engagement within this large consulting firm.
Advice to Management: Try to foster a more inclusive and less rigid company culture. More hybrid work options would really boost morale and improve work-life balance for construction consultants.
