Our products, including our flagship PaperOneTM office paper, are proudly marketed and sold in more than 70 countries around the world.

Our business is built on a Sustainable Forest Management Policy. Our operations include a state-of-the-art pulp and paper mill and plantation forests in Riau Province, Sumatra, Indonesia. APRIL employs around 9,000 people directly and provides indirect employment to 90,000. Today, the residential townsite houses up to 7,000 employees and their families.

Leadership is a mixed bag for engineers
Pros: Some of the direct managers are genuinely supportive, which is good when you're a Software Engineer. The hybrid work model in our Seattle, WA office offers decent flexibility.
Cons: Upper leadership often feels disconnected from daily project realities. There's not always clear strategic direction, making some initiatives tough to execute for engineering teams.
Advice to Management: Work on better communication from senior leadership and clarify company-wide goals more often. It would help the Software Engineer teams a lot.

Culture's Decent, But Could Be Better for Engineers
Pros: The team spirit among individual contributors is genuinely good; we help each other out a lot. The hybrid work model in the Seattle office is pretty flexible, which is a big plus for work-life balance. You don't feel completely micromanaged by your direct peers.
Cons: Leadership can feel a bit out of touch with the day-to-day realities for engineering roles, leading to some frustrating decisions. There's not always clear communication from the top, which impacts company culture. It's a mid-sized tech company, but sometimes feels a bit too corporate with slow decision-making.
Advice to Management: Listen more to your software development teams and foster more transparent communication. Recognizing individual efforts beyond just top performers would really boost morale across the board.

Hybrid Model is Okay, But Needs More Trust
Pros: The hybrid work model is a solid start for a mid-sized tech company. We get two days WFH a week, which is good for personal appointments. As a Data Analyst, I appreciate not commuting everyday to the Austin, TX office.
Cons: True work flexibility isn't really there beyond the scheduled remote days. Our core hours are pretty strict, 9:30 AM to 4:00 PM, even for onsite days. It feels like they don't quite trust us with our schedules, which is a bummer for the tech sector.
Advice to Management: Consider allowing more flexible core hours or offering an option for more remote days based on role performance. Show more trust in employees to manage their own time, especially in a hybrid environment.
