Process Engineer

Work-life balance needs some real work
Pros: People are generally decent and supportive among colleagues. You get paid fine, the compensation is competitive. The benefits package is solid for a corporate environment, which is a plus.
Cons: As a Process Engineer, the hours can get seriously long. Expect more than typical 40-hour weeks in chemical manufacturing. There's often pressure to always be 'on,' even after hours. Onsite work also makes flexibility tough.
Advice to Management: Need to seriously address the long hours for technical staff. Encourage actual downtime and respect employees' personal time. More support to manage project loads would help a lot.

Okay Place, But Career Path Isn't Always Clear
Pros: I've learned a ton about product development in the specialty chemicals industry. The team's really solid, and I appreciate the hybrid work arrangement; it gives some flexibility. We get to work on interesting projects, even if career growth is slow.
Cons: Career growth for an R&D Scientist isn't always clear. There aren't many defined steps to move up, and promotions feel pretty inconsistent. It can feel like you're stuck in your current role without a lot of opportunity.
Advice to Management: Management should really work on creating clearer career ladders, especially for technical roles like R&D. Define what it takes to get promoted.

Hybrid setup is okay, but needs work
Pros: The hybrid model lets me work remotely 2-3 days a week, which is great for my work-life balance. It really helps avoid the daily commute to the Basel office. You get decent autonomy in planning your WFH days.
Cons: For a Chemical Engineer in specialty chemicals, being remote isn't always practical. You often need to be onsite for lab work and R&D projects. It feels like the company culture still expects constant presence, even with the hybrid options available.
Advice to Management: Management should really think about how work flexibility applies to hands-on roles. Maybe offer more structured onsite blocks for lab work, and truly allow remote for deep-dive analysis days. It would improve morale for technical staff in chemical manufacturing.
