Leadership's okay, but some improvements needed
Pros: As a Software Engineer in the Detroit, MI office, I've seen some good things. The hybrid work model is a big plus for work-life balance. My immediate team for automotive software development was solid, and benefits were decent.
Cons: Upper management leadership can be slow to react. It's tough when you don't get clear direction for engineering teams. Decision-making often feels like it takes forever, which can be frustrating.
Advice to Management: Senior leadership needs to work on quicker decision processes and clearer communication. Empowering middle managers more could really help accelerate projects, especially in the automotive tech space.

Okay Work-Life, But Expect Crunch Times
Pros: The hybrid model is a lifesaver, honestly. You get a couple days remote from the Detroit office which really helps with personal stuff. For a big corporate company, they do try to keep things structured most of the time.
Cons: But as a Software Engineer, especially in ADAS projects, there are definite crunch periods. Expect to put in some long hours, particularly before major releases for embedded systems. It's not always easy to maintain a 40-hour week.
Advice to Management: Try to better manage project scope to avoid those intense crunch periods, especially for the embedded systems teams. It impacts overall morale.

Hybrid Work Helps, But Hours Can Be Long
Pros: Working from the Troy, MI office a few days a week is nice for collaboration. They've got a pretty solid hybrid work model for Software Engineer roles, which helps a lot with commuting.
Cons: But honestly, the project deadlines in the automotive sector can be brutal. It's common to put in 50+ hour weeks, especially before big releases for embedded systems. Work-life balance here isn't always great, and it's hard to truly disconnect.
Advice to Management: Try to manage project scope better and provide more resources to avoid constant crunch times. A healthier work-life balance will help retain talent, especially for critical software development roles.
