Leadership here is a mixed bag

Honestly, working at Alignerr as a Software Engineer has been okay. Some parts are good, some are really frustrating, especially when it comes to the people at the top. It's a mid-sized startup in the dental technology space.


Pros

The engineering teams are pretty solid and collaborative. You get to work on interesting problems in dental technology, which is cool. Also, the hybrid work setup in our San Francisco office is decent, giving some flexibility.


Cons

Leadership can be inconsistent. There's a lot of top-down decision making without much input from the ground level. As a Software Engineer, I've seen projects change direction suddenly, which creates extra work and friction. Communication from management definitely needs to improve.


Advice to Management

Listen more to your engineering teams and product folks. Transparency on strategic decisions, especially in this dental technology industry, would really help morale and project execution. Empower middle managers more.

Okay for stability, slow for career growth
Pros: The dental tech industry is pretty steady, so job security feels decent here. My team in the San Francisco office was really supportive and the work itself was interesting. You get to work on a product that actually helps people.

Decent Pay, Benefits Need Work
Pros: As a Software Engineer, my base salary was pretty competitive for a growing tech startup. They did offer unlimited PTO, which is a nice perk for remote roles. The 401k match was decent, nothing amazing but it's there.
Cons: The health insurance premiums were really high for the coverage we got. It felt like I was paying a lot out of pocket. Also, the annual bonus structure isn't very clear, especially for a SaaS company. It's tough to understand how it's calculated.
Advice to Management: You really need to re-evaluate the health insurance options. Lower premiums would be a huge draw for new hires, especially for a growing tech startup. Transparency on bonus calculations would also help employee morale.
