Leadership Can Be Hit or Miss at VML
Pros: Some senior leaders genuinely care about your growth. They try to get us diverse client campaigns which is cool for an advertising agency. It's nice when they push for new ideas in a fast-paced environment.
Cons: There's a real lack of consistent direction from upper management. As a Digital Marketing Specialist, it's tough when priorities shift daily. Sometimes it feels like decisions are made in a vacuum, especially in the New York office.
Advice to Management: Focus on clearer communication regarding strategy and project goals. Empower team leads more to make decisions. Make sure the hybrid work model truly supports everyone, not just those in the office.

Decent Place, But Job Security Is a Concern
Pros: I enjoyed the work on some big digital marketing campaigns; it was good exposure. The team in the Kansas City office was generally really supportive and fun to collaborate with. There are opportunities to learn new skills if you're proactive.
Cons: Job security here is my biggest worry, honestly. It feels like there are yearly layoffs or restructuring, especially as a big agency. For marketing roles, it makes you wonder about the long-term stability and planning, which isn't great.
Advice to Management: Be more transparent about company direction and any potential layoffs or restructuring plans. It really affects morale and makes employees, especially those in client-facing roles like Account Manager, feel less secure. Stability would make a huge difference.

Culture is Okay, Expect Agency Life
Pros: I've met some really smart people here; the teams for digital marketing projects are usually solid. There's a decent sense of camaraderie, which helps a lot when you're hitting deadlines. The hybrid model offers some flexibility, which is nice for a big agency.
Cons: Work-life balance can be tough for Account Manager roles, especially during crunch times. It's easy to feel burnt out with constant client demands. Sometimes the corporate structure feels a bit slow, impacting how quickly we can get things done.
Advice to Management: Try to better manage client expectations to reduce the constant pressure on teams. More resources could help prevent burnout in demanding Account Manager roles.

Work-life balance is tough, but doable for some
Pros: The projects in digital marketing are really interesting, so you're always learning. We have a hybrid work model which is nice, letting you WFH a couple of days. The teams are usually pretty supportive when things get crazy.
Cons: Work-life balance here is a real challenge, especially for Account Executive roles. Expect long hours, often staying late for campaign deadlines. It's a big corporate agency, so you're always busy, and it's hard to truly disconnect.
Advice to Management: Try to manage client expectations better so teams aren't always working late. More focus on sustainable workloads would help a lot with burnout.

VML leadership: a mixed bag
Pros: Some senior managers are truly great mentors, especially for junior Account Executive roles getting into digital marketing. They often give you a lot of autonomy on client services projects. The hybrid model for work flexibility is a big plus here.
Cons: Leadership vision can be super inconsistent, which makes it tough to plan your career growth. Promotions for client services often feel more political than based on actual performance. Communication from the top isn't always clear in the New York office, leading to confusion.
Advice to Management: Focus on creating a more consistent vision for the agency and communicating it clearly to all teams. Also, work on making promotion paths more transparent and merit-based, especially for client services roles.

Digital Strategist

Growth is possible, but you gotta ask.
Pros: You get a lot of exposure to big CPG clients and various digital platforms. It's solid experience for entry-level marketing strategy roles. The teams generally help each other learn new things.
Cons: Formal career pathing isn't clear for a Digital Strategist. You often feel stuck in your current role unless you actively network and apply internally. There's not enough investment in development for mid-level talent.
Advice to Management: Be more proactive in identifying talent for promotions. Clearer pathways for digital marketing professionals would really help. Invest more in internal training programs too.

Leadership can be really inconsistent here
Pros: Some senior leaders are genuinely sharp. They really push for innovative digital marketing campaigns. It's great when you get to work with them directly in the New York City office.
Cons: There's a real lack of consistent vision from the very top. As an Account Manager, I've seen project direction change suddenly without much explanation. It makes it tough to get clear decisions and can impact client deliverables.
Advice to Management: Work on clearer communication and a more unified vision across the global corporate advertising agency. Empower mid-level managers with more decision-making authority.

Hybrid Model and Decent People at VML
Pros: The best part is definitely the people in the Kansas City office. You'll find genuinely collaborative folks. Plus, the hybrid work model offers some flexibility which is a huge plus.
Cons: But the company culture can feel a bit cliquey sometimes. As an Account Manager, I've seen some long hours, especially during big digital marketing campaign pitches. It's not always easy.
Advice to Management: Leadership needs to really look at burnout, especially for project-heavy advertising roles. More transparency would help a lot with team morale.

Hybrid work is okay, but could be better
Pros: I liked the initial freedom of the hybrid model, especially for my Marketing Coordinator role. It was good to have some WFH days for focus work. The Kansas City office is also pretty nice on the days you are onsite.
Cons: The "flexibility" can feel limited by client-facing projects. It's tough when you're expected in the office for meetings even if your actual work is better done remotely. The push for more onsite days in this big digital advertising agency makes the hybrid model feel less truly flexible.
Advice to Management: Really listen to teams about what truly helps their productivity, not just what looks good for client optics. True flexibility helps morale and retention.

VML NYC: Solid for stability, mostly
Pros: Job security as an Account Executive here is pretty solid. We have a lot of steady client accounts, so there's usually enough work. It's a big digital marketing agency, so it feels more stable than smaller shops.
Cons: Even with big clients, the advertising industry can be tough. If a major account leaves, things could get rocky fast. Doesn't feel 100% immune to economic shifts, even in the New York City office.
Advice to Management: Keep diversifying the client roster to maintain that stability for everyone. Transparency during tough times always helps morale and manages expectations.
