Decent Place, But Work-Life Can Be Tricky

Aegon offers good benefits typical of a large financial services firm, but managing work-life balance as a Financial Analyst can be challenging, particularly with long hours during busy periods and limited remote flexibility.

Pros

As a Financial Analyst here, I've had decent exposure to various projects within the financial services industry. The large corporate environment means there are solid benefits, especially health insurance and a good pension scheme. The teams are generally supportive, which helps a lot.

Cons

Work-life balance can be pretty tough sometimes, especially during peak reporting periods. It's not uncommon to put in 50+ hour weeks for these Financial Analyst roles. The hybrid work model means you're still expected in the Edinburgh office a few days, which can make things tricky if you have commitments outside of work.

Advice to Management

Management should really look at how project deadlines impact overall workload. More realistic expectations for Financial Analyst roles, especially during quarter-end, would prevent burnout. Consider more flexible remote options for experienced staff.

Leadership is okay, but could be better
Pros: You've got some really solid mid-level managers who truly know the insurance industry. They're good at guiding new Financial Analysts. It's a big corporate environment so there's a lot of structure and decent job security.
Cons: Upper leadership decisions can feel pretty disconnected from the ground level. As a Financial Analyst, it sometimes felt like my input wasn't really heard. This is typical for a large financial institution, but it means innovation is slow.
Advice to Management: Try to get more direct feedback from employees, especially those in day-to-day finance roles. Bridge the gap between senior leadership and the teams working in the Cedar Rapids office.

Remote Work for Financial Analysts is Okay
Pros: As a Financial Analyst here, the remote work setup really helps. I can manage my personal life much better. The flexibility in the financial services industry is a big plus; it's not always 9 to 5, which is good.
Cons: There are definitely some crunch times. Quarter-end reporting for the insurance sector can be pretty intense. You might work over 50 hours those weeks, and it's tough to keep up sometimes.
Advice to Management: Try to spread out the workload better during peak times. More support for financial reporting could really help reduce burnout.

Decent place for financial services career
Pros: The job security here is pretty solid for a large financial institution. As an Operations Analyst, I appreciated the stable work environment. Also, the hybrid work model offers good flexibility.
Cons: The company culture can feel a bit stuck and slow to adapt. Innovation isn't really a strong point in the Cedar Rapids office. It's tough to see clear career progression for mid-level roles.
Advice to Management: Try to inject more energy and forward-thinking into the company culture. It would help a lot if you could clearly outline paths for career growth for employees.
