Software Engineer

Pay is decent, but benefits could improve
Pros: As a Software Engineer at Buildsafe, the base salary was pretty competitive for the Austin, TX office. I felt like my salary was in line with other growing construction tech startups here. They offer unlimited PTO, which is a nice perk if you actually use it.
Cons: The health benefits aren't great, honestly. High deductibles and limited plans compared to bigger tech companies. Also, the 401k match is pretty weak; it's not really helping with long-term financial planning.
Advice to Management: Re-evaluate the benefits package, especially health insurance options and the 401k match. Stronger benefits would make Buildsafe much more competitive in the Austin job market for attracting and retaining talent.

Solid job security for Project Coordinators
Pros: Job security for my Project Coordinator role feels pretty strong at Buildsafe. We always have a good pipeline of construction projects in the Chicago, IL market. They don't typically do big layoffs, which is a huge relief.
Cons: Sometimes, project timelines can shift quickly, which can create some uncertainty if you're tied to one specific project. It's mostly onsite work, so don't expect much flexibility there. Getting clear updates on long-term project planning isn't always easy.
Advice to Management: Keep communication about the project pipeline even more transparent. It helps everyone feel more secure, especially during slower periods. Maybe also look into hybrid options for roles where some remote work is feasible, even in the construction safety field.

Okay Flexibility for Project Coordinator Roles
Pros: I've been a Project Coordinator here, and the fully remote setup is a huge plus. It helps managing personal stuff around work. You don't have to commute, which saves a ton of time daily in the construction tech industry.
Cons: Even with the remote work, it's not super flexible on actual hours. There are strict core hours for meetings. Sometimes, as a Project Coordinator, you're on call for client issues, which can cut into evenings.
Advice to Management: Try to give teams more control over their daily schedules. Less rigid meeting times would really help.

Leadership's Okay, Communication Needs Work for Sure
Pros: As a Safety Coordinator, I did appreciate the focus on proper equipment in the construction safety industry. My immediate team in the Austin, TX office was generally solid and everyone pulled their weight.
Cons: Leadership doesn't always give clear directions, which makes project planning tough. You often feel like you're figuring things out on your own, and it's not a truly hybrid work environment for these types of roles. Decisions can feel pretty top-down without much input.
Advice to Management: Try to involve managers and coordinators more in strategic decisions. Better communication from the top down would really help team morale and project efficiency in the safety management field.

Good team, but job security is a worry
Pros: The team spirit is really solid here, especially within the Austin, TX office. As a Construction Software Engineer, I got to work on some genuinely interesting construction tech. The daily work was pretty engaging.
Cons: Job security is a real concern in this startup environment. There's been a lot of restructuring lately, and you can feel the tension. It's tough to plan your career when things feel so uncertain.
Advice to Management: Try to provide more transparency and stability. Clearer communication about company direction would really help reduce anxiety among employees.

Growth is slow here, but you'll learn a lot.
Pros: I got to work with a lot of cutting-edge construction safety technologies. As a Construction Project Coordinator, I gained solid hands-on experience in various construction industry projects. It's a decent spot to learn the ropes of modern site management.
Cons: Career growth felt pretty stagnant; there wasn't a clear path for internal promotion. For a growing startup, it's frustrating they often bring in external hires instead of developing existing talent, especially for construction project management roles. This limited my upward mobility in the Austin, TX office.
Advice to Management: Focus more on developing your current employees. Create clearer career ladders for those in construction project management roles. Don't always look outside for senior talent when you have capable people already here.

Work-Life Balance is Okay, But Demanding
Pros: The hybrid work model is a big plus; it gives you some flexibility in your week. As a Project Coordinator, you do learn a lot about the construction software industry, which is valuable. The team in the Austin, TX office is generally pretty supportive when things aren't too crazy.
Cons: Work-life balance can really suffer during busy periods, especially for project management roles. It's tough to consistently stick to 40-hour weeks. Expect to work late when deadlines hit; it's just part of the deal in this fast-paced tech startup.
Advice to Management: Try to better manage workloads, especially for Project Coordinator teams. More realistic timelines for construction software rollouts would greatly improve employee well-being and reduce burnout. Don't just focus on the hybrid work; truly encourage logging off.

Okay culture, but can get a bit much
Pros: The team here is really supportive. As a Construction Project Coordinator, I've always felt my immediate peers had my back. The hybrid work setup in the Austin, TX office is solid, offering a good mix of WFH and office days.
Cons: Company culture at Buildsafe can feel cliquey at the top, which gets frustrating. It's tough to feel heard sometimes, especially if you're not part of the established group. This makes it hard for true collaboration in the construction technology industry.
Advice to Management: Listen more to the people on the ground, not just your inner circle. Make team events genuinely useful, not just mandatory fun.

Okay for a start, but growth is slow here.
Pros: The team is solid, and I've learned a lot about project management on the job. You get good exposure to different construction projects around Houston, TX. It's a stable company for entry-level roles.
Cons: There's not much formal career development or training budget. Moving up feels impossible, especially for mid-level construction project managers. You pretty much stay in your lane unless someone leaves.
Advice to Management: Invest in more structured career paths and training for employees. It'd help retain talent in construction project management roles.

Leadership could use a reality check
Pros: Working as a Construction Safety Specialist, I had some solid teammates and a decent amount of project autonomy. The hybrid work model in the Austin, TX office was super helpful for my schedule.
Cons: Upper management often felt pretty disconnected from our daily safety operations. There's a lack of clear vision sometimes, which makes planning hard for folks on the ground.
Advice to Management: Try to be more present and transparent with your teams. We need better communication on strategy and how decisions impact our construction projects.
