Job Description
The Department of Physiology is seeking a dependable and motivated
Laboratory Technologist to support laboratory operations, teaching activities, safety compliance, departmental events, and day-to-day administrative coordination.
This role is suitable for candidates who enjoy hands-on laboratory work, educational support, operational coordination, and working with faculty, staff, students, vendors, and contractors in a dynamic academic environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Support course administration, including timetable and venue coordination, teaching materials, attendance tracking, assessment logistics, marks processing, and learning platform updates.
- Assist with practical classes, small-group teaching, CET activities, and preparation of laboratory equipment and consumables.
- Support examination and invigilation logistics, including venue setup, student verification, room monitoring, and submission of scripts or reports.
- Assist in preparing and reviewing Risk Assessments and Standard Operating Procedures for teaching, field trips, laboratory activities, equipment, and events.
- Support departmental safety matters, including audits, inspections, safety orientation, emergency equipment checks, safety training, and compliance documentation.
- Help manage shared equipment, consumables, fixed assets, maintenance requests, procurement, and user onboarding.
- Provide hands-on training or refresher briefings to staff, students, TAs, and laboratory users on equipment usage, laboratory techniques, and safety matters.
- Support departmental seminars, conferences, workshops, social activities, publicity materials, website or social media updates, and hybrid event technical support.
- Assist with procurement and management of software licences and timely renewals.
Qualifications
- Possession of a Diploma in Biomedical Sciences or a closely related scientific discipline, demonstrating foundational theoretical and practical knowledge.
- Familiarity with fundamental laboratory techniques and protocols relevant to biomedical and physiological research environments.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) to efficiently manage communications, data, and reporting tasks.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, enabling effective collaboration with diverse stakeholders including faculty, students, and technical staff.
- Excellent planning and organisational skills to manage multiple priorities and coordinate complex schedules and logistics effectively.
- Demonstrated ability to work both independently and cooperatively within a team, showing initiative and reliability in task execution.
- A positive, proactive approach towards learning, adaptability, problem-solving, and responsibility in meeting job demands and handling unforeseen challenges.
- Fluent English communication skills, both written and oral, to engage with academic staff, students, and external partners seamlessly.
