Job Summary
We are seeking a highly experienced Heavy Equipment Operator to join our civil construction team for a project in Voisey Bay specializing in sediment pond construction, earthworks, and tailings and dyke infrastructure. The successful candidate will possess advanced operating skills, strong knowledge of civil construction practices, mine development experience and the ability to work safely and efficiently in challenging environments while maintaining strict quality and environmental standards.
Primary Duties And Responsibilities
- Operate a variety of heavy equipment including excavators, dozers and articulated haul trucks.
- Execute bulk earthworks, excavation, grading, embankment construction, and material placement activities in accordance with project specifications.
- Construct sediment ponds and tailings infrastructure.
- Perform precision grading and slope shaping to achieve design elevations and drainage requirements.
- Install and work around geosynthetics, liners, and erosion control measures.
- Read and interpret construction drawings, grade stakes, survey layouts, GPS machine control systems, and project specifications.
- Conduct daily equipment inspections and perform minor maintenance and servicing.
- Identify equipment deficiencies and communicate repair requirements to supervisors and maintenance personnel.
- Maintain production targets while ensuring compliance with all safety, environmental, and quality requirements.
- Work closely with surveyors, supervisors, and other construction personnel to ensure project objectives are achieved.
- Participate in hazard assessments, toolbox meetings, and site safety programs.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, And Experience
- The following are requirements of this position:
- 5 years’ experience in an industrial civil construction environment operating Excavators Cat 315, 326, 349
- 5 years’ experience in an industrial civil construction environment operating a variety of other equipment (Dozer, Grader, Haul Trucks)
- Operators must be capable and willing and able to operate various types of Heavy Equipment and be a multifaceted versatile operator.
- Must be well versed in construction site protocols, rules and code of conduct;
- Operator with ability to operate equipment using advanced grading techniques (i.e. GPS);
- Willingness to work in a team environment;
- Ability to operate required equipment in a safe and responsible manner;
- Comply with all safety policies and procedures;
- Ability to effectively communicate with co-workers and supervisors to ensure that projects are completed properly;
- Working safely is a condition of employment.

Working Conditions
The Heavy Equipment Operator role may include physically strenuous activities. The Heavy Equipment Operator will be lifting, pulling and managing heavy equipment and objects, requiring the use of PPE such as hardhats, steel toe boots, and reflective vests to minimize risk on the worksite. The worksite environment for this position is outside in varying weather conditions.
