Decent place, leadership could use a refresh.

JTI is a solid global company in the tobacco industry. As a Marketing Manager, I've seen some good things, especially the global reach. But leadership could be better. It's a typical big corporate environment.

Pros

I like the global scale and working on brand strategy for international markets. Some of the senior leaders bring tons of experience from the tobacco industry, which is good for learning. Pay and benefits are pretty competitive too.

Cons

My main issue is with leadership. It feels like upper management in the Geneva office is sometimes out of touch with daily realities. Decisions can drag, and I haven't received much actionable career growth feedback. It's tough to feel heard.

Advice to Management

Try to connect more with employees on the ground, not just senior staff. More direct feedback and clearer career paths would help a lot.

JTI's decent for stability, but change is constant
Pros: For a large corporate company like JTI, job security is generally solid. You don't often hear about huge layoffs unless there's a major restructuring. As a Senior Marketing Specialist, I felt my role was pretty stable, especially in the core tobacco industry business.
Cons: There's always talk about global restructuring or shifts in the consumer goods market, which can make things feel a bit uncertain sometimes. Some roles, especially in newer ventures, might have less long-term security compared to the core business. It can be tough if your project gets deprioritized.
Advice to Management: Keep communication clear about strategic shifts and how they impact job roles. Transparency about potential changes would help reduce employee anxiety and improve overall morale, especially concerning job security in new product development.

Hybrid Work Helps, But Sales Life is Tough
Pros: Working as a Sales Representative at JTI's Richmond, VA office, the hybrid work model was a huge plus for my work-life balance. It really helps manage personal appointments and avoid the daily commute grind. The team generally respects time off if planned well.
Cons: However, being in the tobacco industry, there's always a push to meet demanding sales targets. This often means working longer hours, especially towards quarter-end, which makes maintaining that balance difficult for sales roles. Sometimes, the 'hybrid' becomes more 'onsite' when big pushes happen.
Advice to Management: Try to smooth out the sales peaks and valleys to prevent burnout. More predictable workloads would improve employee well-being.

Hybrid life is good, but depends on your team
Pros: I appreciate the hybrid option for when I wasn't on client visits. For a Sales Representative at JTI, it's pretty good being able to manage my own time. The overall corporate structure provides decent stability too.
Cons: Work flexibility really depends on your manager and team, it's not always consistent. If you're a Sales Representative in the tobacco industry, expect a lot of travel and longer days on the road, so the 'flexibility' has limits.
Advice to Management: Try to standardize hybrid policies across different departments, especially for field-based teams like Sales Representatives, to ensure consistent work flexibility.
