Good Mission, Challenging Leadership
I worked as a Credit Risk Analyst at PayJoy for over two years. The product is solid, and my immediate team was great. But honestly, the senior leadership side of things was a real struggle to deal with.
The mission of PayJoy, helping underserved communities with smartphone financing, is genuinely inspiring. My direct team in the San Francisco office was awesome and very collaborative. It's a fast-paced fintech startup, so you learn a lot quickly if you're proactive.
Senior leadership feels pretty removed from the daily grind for us Credit Risk Analysts. There's often a lack of clear direction, and it's tough to understand why certain strategic decisions are made. Transparency is low, which makes it hard to feel valued or see a clear path for career growth.
Managers, please work on improving communication and transparency from the top down. Actively solicit feedback from all levels, especially individual contributors, and show how it's being incorporated. This would greatly help retention and morale.
