Mission of the Role
General Manager Malaysia is to represent Cotecna and Indelab in the country/region and to manage the affiliate’s operations in all aspects (e.g., business, stakeholder management, internal organization and governance, compliance, administration, legal, finance, human resources, quality). The mission includes the development and diversification of our commercial footprint ensuring operational performance, profitability, and sustainability in all our activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure smooth running of the affiliate by offering day-to-day management, leadership, and guidance
- Lead teams and drive engagement to achieve targets, strategic imperatives, and growth plans
- Propose a development strategy leveraging knowledge of local market condition and clients’ requirements
- To provide leadership to laboratory to grow and develop testing business.
- Build, present, and deliver on the affiliate’s 3-year plan, yearly budgets, and financial targets
- Prepare and present business cases for new initiatives (e.g., investments, alliances, acquisitions)
- Partner with the Business Line leaders to build the above-mentioned growth plans, strategies, and initiatives
- Provide and present monthly/quarterly/yearly financial & non-financial reporting
- Directly accountable for the quality of the affiliate’s balance sheet (e.g., cash and accounts receivable)
- Promote operational excellence to improve productivity, reduce costs, implement best practices…
- Manage the affiliate’s statutory corporate affairs in accordance with local regulations
- Drive the HR agenda (e.g., recruitment, talent & performance management, policies, procedures)
- Ensure full compliance with all Group procedures & rules (reporting and addressing deviations)
Qualifications, Experience and Technical Skills
- Bachelor of Science (chemistry) or similar academic degree
- Min. 10 years of professional experience (with international exposure)
- Min. 5 years in a managerial position with financial accountability (sectors: TIC, commerce, laboratory services)
- Strong knowledge of the local TIC market/business (especially the Agricultural commodity business)
- Proven track-record in business development and diversification
- Entrepreneurial, strong business acumen, able to spot trends/opportunities, customer focused
- Self-starter, change agent, assertive, and able to operate at various levels: operational, tactical, strategic
- Leadership, ability to engage people and build teams, trust, and motivating/efficient work environments
- Ability to lead projects/initiatives, to set priorities, and to achieve results in fast changing environments
- Strong knowledge/experience of financial processes and mechanisms (e.g., P&L, budget, cost management…)
- Ability to build long-term positive work relationships with customers and external/internal stakeholders
- Excellent presentation, interpersonal, and negotiation skills in all circumstances
- Sound understanding of corporate obligations/expectations (e.g., Compliance, Legal, HR, Finance)
- Fluent in English and Malay (excellent verbal and written communication skills), Chinese a strong plus
- Ability to travel (mainly within the country/region)
