Position Overview
JOB DESCRIPTION
The HVAC Tester is responsible for performing HVAC system testing, verification, and basic pre‑commissioning activities on data center cooling units and related mechanical equipment. This role ensures HVAC systems are tested according to established procedures, comply with engineering requirements, and are ready for subsequent commissioning phases.
The HVAC Tester works closely with senior testers, supervisors, engineering teams, and quality departments to support factory acceptance testing (FAT), equipment verification, and preparation for customer‑witnessed testing. This position requires strong technical competency, attention to detail, and strict adherence to safety protocols.
Reports to Senior HVAC Tester Supervisor.
Key Responsibilities
HVAC Testing & Equipment Verification
Perform testing and functional checks on HVAC equipment such as:
- CRAC/CRAH units
- Chillers
- Air handling units (AHUs)
- DX cooling units
- Cooling distribution and piping systems
- Fans, coils, sensors, and HVAC control components
Follow approved test procedures, engineering drawings, P&IDs, and test plans.
Verify mechanical installation quality, airflow direction, cooling capacity parameters, and sensor functionality.
Support for FAT Activities
Prepare HVAC equipment and test stations for FAT execution.
Assist in performing measurement steps, data readings, and functional checks. Communicate findings promptly to senior HVAC testers or supervisors.
Support setup of instrumentation (temperature probes, pressure gauges, flow meters, etc.).
Documentation & Reporting
Record HVAC test results accurately following QA/QC and project documentation standards.
Update HVAC testing forms, measurement sheets, defect logs, and deviation records.
Submit completed documentation for review by senior testers or supervisors.
Ensure all documentation is clear, traceable, and correctly stored.
Tools, Equipment & Safety
Properly operate HVAC testing instruments, measurement tools, and diagnostic equipment.
Ensure HVAC test equipment is used correctly and handled according to calibration requirements.
Always adhere to strict safety procedures, including LOTO when working near electrically driven HVAC equipment.
Maintain a clean and safe working environment within HVAC testing areas.
Collaboration & Continuous Improvement
Work closely with senior testers, engineers, and quality teams to support daily testing schedules.
Participate in basic troubleshooting activities under guidance from senior personnel.
Support implementation of standardized HVAC testing procedures and continuous improvement initiatives.
