Okay management, but senior leadership is detached.

Overall, Masimo is a decent place to work, especially if you have a good direct manager. However, there's a clear disconnect with senior leadership that can be frustrating.

Pros

My direct manager was great and really supported my growth as a Software Engineer. The team leads in the Irvine, CA office were pretty solid too, making for a decent day-to-day experience. There's good job stability in the medical device industry here.

Cons

Higher leadership often seems out of touch with what's happening on the ground. Decisions for our healthcare tech products can take forever to get made. Plus, communication from the top about strategy, especially with our hybrid work model, isn't always clear.

Advice to Management

Try to be more visible and transparent with the teams. It'd really help if senior leadership understood the daily challenges faced by engineers working on these complex medical device projects. Open communication about the hybrid work model and its future would also be appreciated.

Good for experience, job security is okay
Pros: It's a big player in the medical technology space, so that gives some comfort. There's usually a decent workload, so you don't feel like your role is pointless. Working in the Irvine, CA office, you get pretty good benefits, which helps.
Cons: As a Software Engineer, projects shift pretty often, and sometimes teams get reorganized. I've seen some layoffs, so job security isn't guaranteed, especially if a product line isn't doing great. It doesn't always feel like a super stable 'forever' kind of place.
Advice to Management: Focus on clearer communication regarding long-term project stability and future plans to ease employee concerns about job security.

Pay is Okay, Benefits Could Be Better
Pros: As a Software Engineer here, the base salary was pretty decent for medical technology. I got some RSUs too, which was a nice perk for a while. The pay isn't bad for the Irvine, CA area.
Cons: But the health insurance costs are pretty high, especially for families. The 401k match is just okay, nothing special like big tech firms. I felt the overall compensation package could be much stronger.
Advice to Management: Take a serious look at the employee benefits package. High healthcare costs are a real deterrent for many, especially when trying to compete for top engineering talent.

Masimo's Culture Is Okay, Room for Improvement
Pros: The team I worked with was solid. There's a real sense of mission working on patient monitoring technology, which is cool. Decent benefits and you feel like you're doing something important in health tech.
Cons: The culture can feel a bit old-school sometimes. There's a lot of micromanagement, which really bogs down innovation, especially for Software Engineer roles. Work-life balance can get tough due to tight deadlines, and the hybrid model isn't always consistent.
Advice to Management: Focus on empowering teams and less on micromanagement. Update some of the corporate processes to allow more agile development for tech roles. Really listen to feedback on work-life balance from the Irvine office.
