Software Engineer

Leadership needs to step up their game.

It's a decent mid-sized company for software development, but leadership struggles with clear vision and communication.

Pros

The team culture among the developers is solid; we help each other out a lot. The hybrid work model is a big plus, letting us balance office and remote days effectively for our IT solutions projects.

Cons

Leadership often lacks direction, and it feels like they don't fully grasp the engineering challenges. There's a real communication gap between upper management and the project teams in the Kuala Lumpur office. Decisions can feel arbitrary for us as Software Engineers.

Advice to Management

Really listen to your tech teams. A clearer roadmap and better communication about company goals would make a huge difference, especially for project execution in software development.

Pay is decent, but benefits need work
Pros: As a Junior Software Engineer, the base salary here is pretty competitive for the IT solutions industry in Kuala Lumpur. I've found the monthly pay to be consistent, which is always a plus. They do offer some medical coverage, which is decent.
Cons: The benefits package itself isn't great, especially compared to bigger tech companies. There aren't many perks beyond basic medical, so don't expect much. The annual bonus isn't always guaranteed or substantial, which can be tough.
Advice to Management: Improve the benefits package beyond basic medical; more comprehensive offerings would really help with retention. Make the annual bonus more predictable and transparent for employees.

Okay Place, But Career Growth is Tricky
Pros: I've enjoyed the projects as a Software Engineer here. You get exposed to a lot of different client solutions in the IT industry. The team is collaborative, and work-life balance is generally pretty solid for a tech firm in Kuala Lumpur.
Cons: However, career progression feels really unclear. There isn't much of a defined path to move into senior developer roles or management within this mid-sized corporate structure. Training budgets for professional development courses are also pretty limited.
Advice to Management: Focus on creating clear career ladders for technical and leadership roles. Invest more in employee training and development programs to help us grow our skills in this competitive IT solutions market.

Leadership Needs Work, Decent for IT Consultants
Pros: I've learned a lot about different IT solutions here, especially working on digital transformation projects. The hybrid work model is a big plus; it gives good flexibility. My team members are really supportive.
Cons: Leadership communication is a big issue for me. Project managers sometimes lack the authority to make critical decisions, which stalls software development sprints. There's not much of a clear vision from senior leadership.
Advice to Management: Focus on clearer communication strategies and empower your project managers more. Invest in leadership training to ensure everyone's on the same page.
