Okay for Retail, But Don't Expect Much Flexibility
Working at IKEA, especially in retail, has its moments. It's a big company, so things can feel a bit rigid. I was a Retail Sales Associate and found the work okay, but definitely not the most flexible gig out there.
You can sometimes swap shifts with coworkers if you really need to, which helps. For a large corporate retailer, they do offer decent benefits for hourly employees, which is a plus. It's not completely impossible to get a specific day off if you plan way ahead.
Work flexibility is tough for customer service roles. Expect mandatory weekend shifts and holidays. Your schedule can change weekly, making it hard to plan anything outside of work. It's a strictly onsite job, so no remote options, obviously.
Try to offer more predictable scheduling for your Retail Sales Associate teams. Even a two-week heads-up would make a huge difference for people's personal lives. Consider slightly more weekend flexibility for tenured staff.
