Decent Work-Life Balance, Project Dependent

Working at Arcondis Group as an IT Consultant in Boston offered a decent, but sometimes challenging, work-life balance. It really hinged on the specific projects and client demands I was on. Some periods were very manageable, while others required a lot of extra effort, particularly with life sciences industry deadlines. The company tries to be flexible, but client needs usually come first.

Pros

Work-life balance as an IT Consultant can be good on projects with predictable client demands. I often had standard 40-45 hour weeks. There's solid support for hybrid work from the Boston, MA office, which helps avoid daily commutes. It's nice to have that flexibility.

Cons

Some projects, especially in the pharmaceutical industry, demand longer hours, making work-life balance tough. You can feel the pressure during critical phases. Management sometimes struggles to push back on client expectations, leading to late nights. It's not consistent, but it happens enough to be noticeable.

Advice to Management

Try to set clearer boundaries with clients regarding project scope and timelines. Support your IT consulting teams more when they need to push back on unrealistic deadlines. It would greatly improve the work-life balance for many employees.

Decent Hybrid Model, But Can Improve
Pros: I liked the hybrid model initially, giving me some WFH days each week. It's good for a Senior Business Analyst like me. You get some control over your schedule, especially when working on certain life sciences projects remotely from Boston, MA.
Cons: The 'flexibility' often means fixed onsite days, even if there's no client meeting. It feels less flexible than promised for many consulting roles. Sometimes the expectation to be in the Boston, MA office makes WFH a bit of a tease.
Advice to Management: Trust your employees more with true flexibility. If the work can be done remotely for life sciences projects, let it happen without arbitrary onsite requirements. Consider a more flexible approach for the Boston, MA office.

Decent Security for Consulting Roles
Pros: There's a pretty solid client base in the life sciences and healthcare industry, which means a fairly steady project pipeline for IT consultant roles. As a global consulting firm, they generally find new work quickly, so I've rarely felt truly worried about job security.
Cons: The biggest downside? Job security often feels tied to specific projects. When one wraps up, there's always a scramble for the next, which can be stressful. Bench time isn't great for peace of mind either.
Advice to Management: Focus on clearer communication around project transitions and bench time. More proactive placement for IT consultants between projects would really boost morale and job security feelings.

Growth is a bit slow here, honestly
Pros: You get exposed to interesting projects, especially in **life sciences consulting**. The work itself can be engaging and you learn a lot about different client environments.
Cons: Career path isn't super clear for an **Associate Consultant**. It's tough to see real promotion opportunities, even in my **hybrid role**. Feels like a **mid-sized consulting firm** where progression is slow.
Advice to Management: Need clearer progression paths. Tell people what it actually takes to move up. Invest more in internal training for different consulting skills.
