Culture is okay, but needs some work

It's a decent place to start your career in the financial services industry, but don't expect too much from the culture.

Pros

As a Junior Data Analyst, I got a lot of exposure to different systems. The team in Kuala Lumpur is generally supportive and helpful when you're learning. They've got solid benefits and a pretty stable environment.

Cons

The company culture can feel a bit old-school sometimes. There's not much room for new ideas, especially for junior roles. WFH flexibility is there, but sometimes it feels like a formality.

Advice to Management

Try to really listen to newer employees. Encourage more innovation and be open to different ways of doing things, not just the 'old way'.

Slow Climb in a Big Corporate Machine
Pros: It's a stable place, typical for the insurance industry. You get decent experience as an Operations Analyst learning the core systems. The Kuala Lumpur office is pretty modern.
Cons: Career growth here is really slow. There aren't many clear paths up, especially for folks in shared services model functions. Promotions feel more about who you know than what you've achieved.
Advice to Management: You really need to create clearer development plans and more opportunities for internal promotion. It'd help a lot with retaining good people.

Okay place for stability, not much growth
Pros: The job security is good; it's a solid place to learn core processes within a big shared services center. You get decent benefits and a pretty stable work-life balance with the hybrid work model. Good for entry-level roles.
Cons: Career growth for a Business Analyst here is really slow. It's tough to get promoted or find new projects that challenge you. Most advancement means moving to another department, which is hard to do from the Kuala Lumpur office. You can get stuck doing the same tasks for years in the insurance industry.
Advice to Management: Invest more in internal mobility and skill development programs. Create clearer paths for career progression for non-managerial roles in the shared services center.

Okay stability, but watch out long-term
Pros: Job security for core back-office support functions is pretty solid here. You don't have to worry much about layoffs if you're good at your role. It's a big corporate environment, so things feel stable.
Cons: There's not much room for career growth, especially for Finance Operations Analyst roles. I worry about automation impacts on shared services in the long run. It's a bit rigid, not much work flexibility.
Advice to Management: Look into more internal mobility programs to keep employees engaged. Also, be transparent about future plans for automation and upskilling opportunities for shared services teams.
