Work-life balance is okay, but it varies.

I worked as a Software Engineer at Lighthouse in Seattle, WA. The company offers some good benefits and a solid hybrid work policy. However, work-life balance can really depend on your project and team. Deadlines in the tech industry often mean long hours, which can be tough.


Pros

The hybrid work setup is really helpful for managing personal appointments. As a Software Engineer, the core hours are generally respected. We also have decent PTO, which is a plus.


Cons

Some projects have really tight deadlines, especially in the tech industry. It's not uncommon to work late during those crunch times. Remote team members sometimes feel more pressure to always be online.


Advice to Management

Try to manage project scope better to avoid last-minute rushes. More realistic timelines would really help with employee burnout.

Work-life balance is decent, not perfect
Pros: Most of the time, teams do a good job respecting 40-hour weeks. Working remote from Texas, I've had good flexibility for personal appointments. For software development roles, the focus on agile sprints often helps manage workload.
Cons: Crunch times before major product launches can be pretty intense. I've definitely put in 50+ hour weeks during those periods. Some engineering managers don't prioritize work-life balance as much as others.

Job Security's Okay, Could Be Better
