Process Engineer

Decent company, but work flexibility is lacking.

It's a solid company in the high-tech industrial valves space. I've learned a ton as a Process Engineer here, especially with vacuum technology. Just wish there was more give on where we work.

Pros

The team in the Milpitas office is great; we have good camaraderie. They're okay with minor schedule adjustments if you need to step out for an appointment, which is a small plus for work-life balance. We're working on really interesting products for semiconductor manufacturing.

Cons

Honestly, the work from home options are almost non-existent for Process Engineer roles. It's a very strict onsite work model, which makes work flexibility tough. This can be a real struggle if you have personal commitments.

Advice to Management

Management should seriously consider a hybrid work model for technical roles that don't absolutely require constant physical presence. It would improve employee satisfaction and help retain talent in the competitive semiconductor industry.

Solid Pay for Technicians, Benefits Are There
Pros: The base salary for Manufacturing Technician roles is quite competitive, I didn't feel underpaid at all. You get a good pension plan and decent health insurance, which is pretty standard for a corporate company in Switzerland. The annual bonus wasn't huge but it was a nice extra.
Cons: There isn't much room for salary negotiation once you're in, which can be tough. The cost of living in Sennwald is high, so even with solid pay, it's not always easy. I think they could improve the wellness benefits offered for onsite employees.
Advice to Management: Look into offering more competitive annual raises and perhaps some location-specific perks to offset the high cost of living in Sennwald for onsite employees. Better professional development budgets would also help with career growth.

Decent place, but career growth can be slow
Pros: There's good job security here, especially for manufacturing roles. You're part of a big, corporate environment in the semiconductor industry. My team was supportive, and the benefits were decent for the region.
Cons: Career growth for a Process Engineer felt pretty slow. There aren't many clear paths upwards unless someone leaves the company. Promotions are rare, and it's hard to get new responsibilities without pushing super hard.
Advice to Management: Management should really focus on creating clearer development programs. More opportunities for internal movement, especially for us in technical roles, would be a huge plus.

Okay flexibility, but room to grow for onsite roles
Pros: You can usually adjust your start time a bit, which is helpful. For a manufacturing company focused on high-tech valves, that's actually pretty good for managing personal stuff. Most of my colleagues in Sargans appreciated that small perk.
Cons: It's tough to get real work-from-home flexibility when you're a Production Engineer tied to semiconductor manufacturing lines. There's almost no option for hybrid work in my role, which can be a bummer for some.
Advice to Management: Try to identify roles, even within engineering, that could support a hybrid model. It would really help with attracting and retaining talent, especially in a place like Sargans, Switzerland.
