Hybrid is fine, but true flexibility is missing

Shopee has a structured hybrid work model, but actual flexibility feels limited for many roles, especially if you're in an operational department like marketing. Expect long hours, which can impact your personal life.

Pros

The official hybrid model is decent, giving us some onsite days in the Singapore office. It's good to catch up with colleagues, especially important for collaborative marketing roles in this fast-paced e-commerce environment.

Cons

Work flexibility is tough, honestly. As a Marketing Associate, you're expected to be available for long hours. Don't expect many true WFH days beyond the policy, and it's not really a big tech company vibe for remote work.

Advice to Management

Management needs to really encourage work-life balance and empower teams to genuinely use flexible work options. The official hybrid policy is there, but the culture often overrides it with expectations for constant availability.

Tough grind, not much balance for tech roles.
Pros: Some teams in the Singapore office try to stick to normal hours. You get to work with smart people in the e-commerce space. The onsite benefits are okay, like free food sometimes.
Cons: Work-life balance as a Software Engineer is really tough here. Long hours are common, especially for big tech projects. There's an expectation to be online late, even with hybrid work.
Advice to Management: Management needs to really prioritize employee well-being. Stop promoting a culture of overwork; it burns people out, especially in the competitive tech industry. Give teams more autonomy over project deadlines and WFH options to improve things.

Okay Work-Life, But Expect Long Hours Sometimes
Pros: It's a big tech company, so there are decent benefits. You learn a lot really fast, especially working on e-commerce projects. The teams are usually pretty supportive.
Cons: Work-life balance can be tough for Product Manager roles. Expect late nights, especially around campaign periods. Sometimes the hybrid work model feels more like full-time on-site in the Singapore office.
Advice to Management: Try to enforce better boundaries for work hours, especially during peak seasons. Give teams more autonomy for genuine hybrid work schedules.

Hybrid Model Okay, But Flexibility Isn't Great
Pros: The hybrid model is a plus for Software Engineer roles here. You get some WFH days which helps with the long commute to the Singapore office. It's a decent perk, honestly.
Cons: But the work flexibility isn't as good as other big tech places. The hybrid policy is pretty rigid. Don't expect to just switch to fully remote if you need to. It's tough sometimes.
Advice to Management: Consider offering more true work flexibility. The current hybrid setup feels a bit too rigid for a modern tech company. Trusting employees more with their work location could boost morale.
