Okay Pay, Solid Benefits at onsemi

It's a pretty stable company with good benefits, but the pay could definitely be better. As a Software Engineer, I felt my salary wasn't quite competitive for the market.

Pros

The benefits package here is pretty solid, especially the health insurance. As a Software Engineer in the semiconductor industry, I appreciate having decent coverage. The 401k match is also a nice perk, it helps build up savings.

Cons

Base pay isn't as competitive as I've seen at other big tech companies. Annual raises feel really small, it's tough to keep up with inflation. It feels like they could do more to attract top talent in the Phoenix, AZ office.

Advice to Management

Seriously review the compensation structure. Increase base salaries and make annual raises more impactful to stay competitive with other companies in the tech sector.

Okay pay, but don't expect big bonuses
Pros: The base salary for a Junior Electrical Engineer is decent, especially in the Phoenix office. You get a good benefits package, including health insurance and a solid 401k match, which is pretty standard for a big corporate company like onsemi. There's good job security too.
Cons: Annual raises aren't huge, and the bonus structure can be confusing. It feels like compensation isn't keeping up with market rates for analog design engineers. I've seen better total compensation at other places in the semiconductor industry.
Advice to Management: Review compensation bands regularly to stay competitive, especially for experienced engineering talent. Be more transparent about bonus calculations.

Culture is okay, but it's a corporate giant
Pros: There's good job security here, especially if you're an experienced Hardware Engineer. The pay and benefits are pretty solid for the semiconductor industry. My team in the Phoenix office was mostly supportive, which made daily tasks decent.
Cons: The company culture can feel really corporate and slow. It's tough to get new ideas moving, and there's too much red tape. Work-life balance can get tricky, often leading to more than 40-hour weeks for a Hardware Engineer.
Advice to Management: Focus on empowering teams more and cutting down on bureaucratic processes. It would make a huge difference in morale and innovation for employees.

Work-life balance is tough in the fab
Pros: There's solid job security here, which is nice for a large corporate. You learn a ton about semiconductor manufacturing and the tech is cutting-edge. The pay for engineers is decent, helping make up for the hours a bit.
Cons: The work-life balance is definitely a struggle, particularly for onsite Process Engineer roles. Expect long hours, sometimes over 50-60 hours a week, especially when issues pop up in wafer production. WFH isn't really an option if you're working directly with the fab equipment.
Advice to Management: Management needs to figure out how to staff better to reduce the workload for engineers, especially in the Phoenix, AZ fab. Burnout is a real issue.
