Decent Stability, But Compensation Lags

Working at Sabre as a Software Engineer in their Southlake, TX office has been a mixed bag. It's a big corporate company in the travel technology space, which brings some stability, but the pay and benefits just don't quite hit the mark compared to other tech industry players.


Pros

I liked the job security you get with a big corporate player like Sabre. The health insurance is solid, and there's a pretty standard 401k match. For a Software Engineer, the work itself can be pretty interesting in the travel technology domain.


Cons

The pay here is definitely not competitive for the tech industry, especially for technical roles like mine. Raises are super small, and there aren't many stock options. It just feels like your compensation isn't keeping up, especially when you compare it to other companies in the Southlake, TX area.


Advice to Management

Management really needs to re-evaluate the compensation packages for all employees, especially for engineers. We need better base salaries and more robust bonus or stock options to attract and retain top talent in the current tech market.

Hybrid Model Works Okay, But Could Be Better
Pros: I like the hybrid work model here; it's generally 3 days in the Southlake, Texas office, 2 days WFH. This setup gives me some balance. It's good for collaborating in person with my dev team on travel technology projects.
Cons: The "flexibility" can be a bit rigid sometimes. Getting approval for fully remote weeks is tough, and there aren't many remote options for my Software Engineer role beyond the standard hybrid. It's not as flexible as some other big tech companies.
Advice to Management: Consider offering more truly remote roles or at least more flexible hybrid options for long-term employees, especially within travel technology. Trust your Software Engineers more.
