Decent Hybrid Policy, Room for Improvement

Monee's hybrid work model is pretty good for some roles, especially in engineering. But it still feels like they're figuring out true flexibility. The company culture is mostly okay, just some lingering old-school thoughts about being in the office.


Pros

I really liked the hybrid setup here, as a Software Engineer. We could work from home two days a week, which was great for avoiding the San Francisco commute. It made planning my personal life a lot easier, compared to fully onsite roles in FinTech.


Cons

Even with the hybrid model, some managers still push for more in-office time. It's not always easy to get approval for extra remote days. This makes the promised work flexibility feel a bit inconsistent across teams.


Advice to Management

Really commit to the hybrid work model. Empower managers to trust their teams more with remote work. Focus on results, not just face time, especially for technical roles like engineering.

Pay is okay, but benefits are solid here.
Pros: They offer solid health insurance, which is great for a fintech startup of this size. Also, the remote work benefits, like a stipend for home office setup, are a huge plus when you're working from Dallas. The 401k match kicks in pretty fast too.
Cons: The base salary for Financial Analyst roles is definitely on the lower end compared to other companies in the financial services industry. It feels a bit behind market rates. Raises are pretty stingy, and the bonus structure isn't very clear or generous.

Hybrid Model Has Its Ups and Downs
Pros: For a Financial Analyst in the New York City office, the hybrid model is decent. You get two WFH days each week, which is helpful for deep work. It's a pretty typical setup for the fintech industry right now.
Cons: The three in-office days are mandatory, no real flexibility there at all. It can be tough if you have appointments or need to adjust your schedule last minute. Some teams are stricter about it than others.
Advice to Management: Consider offering more flexible options for the in-office days, like choosing which three days work best for individuals. Trust employees more to get their work done wherever they are.

Okay for a startup, but keep your options open
Pros: You get to learn a lot, especially if you're early in your fintech career. As a Software Engineer, I've worked on some really interesting projects. That experience definitely helps build a strong resume.
Cons: Job security is always a concern with any startup. Even in the San Francisco Bay Area tech scene, funding rounds mean things can shift quickly. There's just this constant low hum of 'what if' that isn't great for long-term planning.
Advice to Management: Try to be more upfront about the company's financial state and long-term plans. It would really help ease concerns about job security, especially for those of us in technical roles.
