Position Title: Flow Battery System Engineer
Salary: 36,000 per month + bonus up to 6 months
Location: Kowloon Tung & Shatin, Hong Kong
Position Overview
The Flow Battery System Engineer will be responsible for the development, integration, testing, and performance optimization of advanced flow battery systems.
The candidate will coordinate multidisciplinary engineering activities related to battery stacks, structural design, materials development, manufacturing processes, fluid systems, and simulation studies to support the engineering scale-up and commercialization of next-generation long-duration energy storage technologies.
This role requires strong system-level engineering capability and close collaboration across electrochemistry, mechanical, electrical, control, and manufacturing teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Flow Battery System Development
- Support the development and engineering implementation of flow battery energy storage systems;
- Coordinate battery stack, piping, electrolyte circulation, and auxiliary subsystem integration;
- Participate in system architecture design and engineering optimization.
- Stack Development & Engineering Coordination
- Coordinate battery stack development activities, including structural design, assembly, sealing, and flow field optimization;
- Work closely with electrochemistry, materials, and mechanical teams to improve stack performance and reliability;
- Support scale-up from laboratory prototypes to engineering-scale stacks.
- Testing, Validation & Performance Optimization
- Organize system testing, validation, and performance evaluation activities;
- Analyze battery efficiency, power density, cycling stability, thermal behavior, and operational reliability;
- Support troubleshooting and root-cause analysis during testing and field operation.
- Structural Design & Manufacturing Process Support
- Coordinate stack structural design and manufacturability optimization;
- Support engineering drawing review and production process development;
- Participate in assembly procedure development and quality control activities.
- Simulation & Multiphysics Analysis
- Coordinate simulation activities related to:
- Fluid flow distribution
- Thermal management
- Structural mechanics
- Multiphysics coupling
- Support interpretation of simulation results and engineering optimization.
- Cross-functional Technical Coordination
- Coordinate collaboration between materials, electrochemistry, electrical, mechanical, and system integration teams;
- Participate in technical reviews, project planning, and milestone tracking;
- Support communication with suppliers, manufacturers, and external technical partners.
- Product Engineering & Commercialization
- Support engineering scale-up and commercialization of flow battery products;
- Participate in product standardization and technical documentation development;
- Contribute to future MW-scale energy storage system deployment projects.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s degree or above in Mechanical Engineering, Energy Engineering, Electrochemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or related disciplines;
- Master’s degree or above is preferred.
Experience
- Experience in battery systems, fuel cells, flow batteries, or related electrochemical systems;
- Experience in system development, testing, or engineering validation;
- Experience in multidisciplinary engineering coordination is preferred;
- Experience in manufacturing process development or simulation analysis is a plus.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong system-level engineering and problem-solving capability;
- Understanding of electrochemical energy storage systems and stack engineering;
- Familiarity with testing and validation methodologies;
- Ability to coordinate multidisciplinary technical teams;
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting capability;
- Good communication and project coordination skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in flow battery or fuel cell stack development;
- Familiarity with CFD, thermal simulation, or structural analysis tools;
- Experience in MW-scale energy storage systems or pilot-scale projects;
- Familiarity with engineering drawings, manufacturing processes, and quality control;
- Familiarity with IEC, UL, or energy storage related standards.
Role Expectations
The Flow Battery System Engineer is expected to play a key role in the engineering development, testing, and optimization of advanced flow battery systems, bridging laboratory research and industrial-scale implementation.
The candidate will work closely with multidisciplinary teams to improve system performance, reliability, manufacturability, and scalability for future commercial energy storage applications.
