Leadership is okay, definitely a corporate vibe

Working as a Claims Adjuster at AIG has its ups and downs. The big corporate environment means stability, but leadership can be a mixed bag depending on your team. It's a decent spot for insurance professionals seeking remote work.

Pros

The job security for insurance professionals is pretty solid here. You've got decent benefits and remote work is a real plus, especially being remote from Texas. It's a big, stable company in the insurance industry.

Cons

Leadership can be inconsistent. Some managers are great, others are micromanagers with too much on their plate. There's not much room for quick career growth without constantly pushing for it. Sometimes communication feels siloed.

Advice to Management

Work on leadership training across the board. Standardize expectations for managers and ensure they aren't overloaded. Better communication between departments would help a lot.

Work-Life Balance is Decent, Can Be Challenging
Pros: I liked the hybrid work model; it gave some flexibility during the week. For a large corporate environment, the benefits package was solid. When things weren't crazy busy, you could generally stick to your 40-hour weeks.
Cons: As a Claims Adjuster, it's easy to get overloaded, and that definitely impacted my personal time. There were periods where I worked more than 50 hours trying to keep up with claims. It can be tough to truly unplug after hours.
Advice to Management: Management needs to better address workload distribution, especially for claims processing teams. More staffing or better tools could really help prevent burnout for insurance professionals.

Decent Stability for a Big Insurance Company
Pros: As an Underwriter, I felt pretty secure in my remote role. It's a large corporate company; they aren't going anywhere fast. The benefits package is solid for the insurance industry.
Cons: Frequent team restructures can make you feel a bit unsettled. Even at AIG, you don't always know what's coming for your department. It impacts your overall job security vibes.
Advice to Management: Try to communicate changes more clearly and further in advance. Constant reorgs create unease among employees, especially concerning their job security in specific product lines.

Solid Start, But Career Growth Feels Stalled
Pros: The training is pretty good for new Claims Adjuster roles. You learn a lot about different policy types and risk management. It's a decent way to get into the large insurance company world.
Cons: The career path isn't very clear after a few years. Internal promotions for senior insurance professional roles are rare. You often have to leave the New York City office to find real advancement opportunities.
Advice to Management: Managers should really focus on creating clearer paths for advancement. Especially for experienced Claims Adjusters, invest more in internal development programs and strong mentorship to keep talent.
